I fell at work and broke my wrist Colles fracture. They put a screw in it, and in 3 weeks removed it. I had a hard cast on for 4 more weeks. When the cast was removed I was in alot of pain not much helped. Did the pt for about 2 weeks was suposed to do for 2 more but was unable to due to work, children, and not being able to drive (I work nights). Now I am still in pain when I move it certain ways, when I bend it forward it feels as if it is locked where the screw was and is very painful. Hand tingles some but the real problem is the pain, hand also goes to sleep alot while sleeping. Moving hand back is also hard to do as it can be painful. My thumb is giving me some problems also with shooting pains down it. Doctor has releasted me back to work no restrictions says I am fine when I am not. I am worried I also had another xray done showed unreunited ulna of the styloid process whatever that means. Can someone help me, I am worried about my job as I am not gonna be able to do what I am required to do. Thankyou

I had one of those wrist breaks back last March, 2003. I still have some pain and weakness but it is basically doing better. I know how the pain feels though and it does take a good long while for the pain to completely subside. I do a alot of computer work for a living and there was three months there that I could not move my fingers enough to type. I had to dictate my stuff for someone else to type it from the day I broke my wrist until the last of June into July. There are still times when it is painful, like when the weather is changing. All I can tell you is to practice those exercises they had you do in PT and get some warm water to exercise your wrist in at home. I did PT 2 and 3 times per week for six weeks and then kept doing the exercises at home afterward. I believe returning to typing as soon as I could helped me alot. I still have trouble with turning door knobs and holding weight in my hand that is heavier than 5 lbs and will have to have help with my other hand, but I practice with gallon jugs of milk and try to use my broken wrist as much as possible. I do know it is painful though.
