I've been on birth control for over a year now and I just started taking a new one recently and I've noticed that it's making me gain weight... The week I'm off the pill, I will lose 5 pounds, but as soon as I start taking it again, the weight piles back on... It's SO frustrating b/c I can't seem to get rid of it... Any tips to get rid of this (I'm assuming it's water weight?) before I can get a new pill? I am going to switch brands b/c it's annoying me a lot... but is there anything I can do before then? It's triggering my ED so badly... Ugh!!!!

What brand are you on? I was on Mercette (Sp) for a while and it made me retain about 5 lbs...Then I switched to Yasmin and have had No problems. You maybe want to check out Yasmin, as it has a very low risk of side effects. Also have you checked out the Birth Control Patch? It very well could be that you just need to switch to another pill with a lower dose of hormones in it.

Right now I'm on Desogen. I was on Yasmin and it was great, but too expensive... :( I've taken Lo-Ovral, also, and it made me gain weight... Ugh, I hate it... :( I wish Yasmin was cheaper!!! Thanks for replying. :)

Where were you buying Yasmin from? I take it you don't have insurance?

I have insurance, but it is still expensive... It was $20 a month, but the policy has changed and it's down to $15, which is still too much. I am taking Desogen, which is about $6... So, the price is right... but the weight gain... grrrrr I'll have to check out that web site, tho, thanx!

I have been taking yasmin and have been having the opposite problem. I have lost 15 lbs since I have been on it. I am 5'7" and 121lbs right now and. I was about 137 before I started taking it about 6 months ago. I lost all of that weight in about 3 to 4 weeks without trying at all. I am trying to gain some of it back I would like to weight 130 lbs that is a good weight for my height. I don't really know what it is doing to make me drop all of that weight. I am eating the same amount of food as before. I liked that I was losing weight at first but I am struggling to keep from losing too much here. It also made my boobs bigger and they are the same size now that they were when I was 137lbs they normally are smaller at this weight I am at now. It was really nice at first because they got bigger and I was still weighing more but once the weight dropped off then they got smaller too. Not too bad though I am 34B or sometimes a C depending on the bra. I do like that Yasmin though no bad side effects besides making me lose weight and I can't really complain too much about that I do get to eat whatever I want now. It has also prevented me from getting headaches too. I take it on a continuous basis though for endometriosis. So there isn't so much up and down with the hormones which used to cause me headaches.

hey guys, im on depo-pravera. its the shot you get every three months. b/c i definitely would not be able to keep up w/ the pill. but anyways when i first started taking it my doc said that like 5% of the time it will make people gain weight and im not really sure if it did...but w/ my ED ive been losing a lot of weight and my ED specialist doc said that it was odd how i was able to lose so much weight while on depo-pravera. so i guess i would suggest it to yall b/c its so easy and almost no side effects (its something with low hormone levels b.c weve had cancer run in my family) and its also supposed to be the leading birth control w/ like the least accidental pregnancies, but you do have to be careful cuz w/ some people it will make you have your period all the time...like me  my last period lasted for 5 weeks...and this one is up to 4 weeks now....it sucks : (

ive been on birth control for about a year and five months and i feel your aggravation. I am on estrostep Fe and althoug my dad has insurence ( which i must mention i will be off of soon and will have to get my own and probably not as good as his) I pay thirty seven dollars a month. At first and for a while it was almost thirty four dollars and i thought that was alot (which it was, but then i went to walgreens to pick up my prescription a few weeks ago and it went up to almost 38 dollars. I was trying not to be rude to the lady that waited on me but i was still mad and had to leave to ask my mom why it went up even more. I think we both need to call some sort of place (if one even exists) to help people like us who dont want to spend that much money on bc. I would recommend calling your birth control company, because sometimes they offer discount rates, but i have already tried that and i was much dissapointed and angry when my bc was the same cost. I definetely wouldnt get off of it if i were you cuz it will cost alot more if u get pregnant and that is the one main reason i stay on it plus it does wonder for acne and other related face problems. Perhaps thtas why mine is so expensive, but i was told mine would only cost 15 a month so im pretty confused myself. well good luck and be safe. hope i didnt bore you with my story or not give you enough advice.

Thanks for your response! I'm glad I'm not the only one dealing w/ this situation... It's such a pain. I had my mom pick up my prescription since I'm in college and can't get to it on my own and they charged $25 because she didn't present the right prescription/insurance card... so my dad had to bring the card to Walgreens and get the $10 back... I think $15 is WAY too much for a medication... I can't imagine paying $38 a month! That's incredible. They should have more generic brands... Yasmin doesn't have one yet, so that's why it's so expensive... :-\ Grrrrr. Good luck to us!!! lol
