This actually is a common side effect of trazodone. Like many drugs, there is always the possibility of withdrawal, and those symptoms tend to be the opposite of what the drug does. Mention that to your doctor...you might benefit from lowering the dose a bit.

Yeah, I felt that way, too, except at night, I didn't even get relaxed, I'd just pass right out and fall dead asleep! Trazodone increased my anxiety and my severe mood swings attributed to hypoglycemia. I was wayyyy too hyper the next day.

I took trazodone for 2-3 years at 100mg and at 150mg (started at 150, dropped to 100 about year later...) I never experienced any of the issues u mentioned below, untill an SSRI (Zoloft) was added..
at that time I was someone u didn't want to be around, unless...
you love being yelled at.. the ssri caused the irratibilty and all the other rotten things... Trazodone is a mild anti-depressant.. I've seen several doctor's mix Paxil or Zoloft with Trazodone.. (or wellbutrin xl and Trazodone.)
But i never recall being hyper the next morning, I only wish I was..
it seems that different companies that make the same drug, (if they have been around long enough, to become a generic) each seem to react differently, example, I took 100mg of a certain med I cation, within 2 hours I had to go to bed, nostops for anything, do not pass go and collect $200.. otherwise I would fall asleep on the spot... took a while for people to understand that... Yet, a 150mg, same drug, different manufacture, let me wide awake at night... so the only way I could take the drug is, 100mg+50mg..
good luck

Hi sweetpoisin, I just wanted to add something to all these replies. Last night was the first night that I started trazodone. The doc gave it to me as a sleep aid. 50mgs at bedtime. For some reason I was awake til 2am, even though I took it at midnite with my ativan and lithobid. Then I woke up rather early this morning feeling a little antsy and now at 4pm I feel so tired and antsy. I know it's too soon for me to tell how it affects me, but I quit taking sonata, when I started trazodone , so I'm not sure about sideffects and withdrawl symptoms.

Hi,
when you felt nervous in the morning, how long after you took the zoloft did the nervousness start? Are you sure the trazodone is a contributing issue? Had you recently increased the Zoloft? Try to think of all the other possible factors.
I have taken up to 300-350 mg Traz. at bedtime with no adverse effects (my insomnia is extremely bad). It made me sleep great and I had no drowsiness the next day, as some people have reported.
The one thing I noticed is that one time, I accidentally took twice as much (600 mg) because I thought the tablets were 50's but they were 100's mgs.
I experienced tachycardia and had great difficulty getting to sleep that night. Later I discovered the mistake I had made by counting the remaining pills.
Is it possible that your dose of trazodone is too high?

u2fran,
what you are saying sounds very familiar to something I read on the depression board once. I don't remember if the issue turned out to be the trazodone in that case.
I was on sonata once, taking up to 7 pills (can't remember what size pills) at night and it wasn't helping, so I immediately stopped and went back on trazodone (all under a doctor's supervision). I did not have any of the effects you suggest. I don't think sonata is addictive, so there is no withdrawal per se.

Thanks for your input, potchrazebie. I'm not sure the trazodone is working for me. I still don't fall asleep til an hour or so, after I take it. I seem to have extra anxiety, tiredness, and posssibly a better feeling than depression during the day. I don't see my doc til april, so Guess I'm just gonna keep on taking it..
