I just popped a claritin, as I get tired of spitting up this phlem. I am no longer sick with a cough that I had for Nov. and Dec. but I have this constant morning spit up. It is mostly clear, but some yellow, occasionally. I want to try alternative things to help this. I assume it is post nasal drip? What is this, anyway?
Anyone get rid of it alternatively? I don't want to resort to claritin....
I should not have this, and I think it isn't natural to take a claritin continuously.

[QUOTE=DrTony]Dear dagmar,

"I would recommend a few things.
I am a physician trained in Western and Eastern medicines and can offer a bit of simple advice.
1) Do not eat 4 hours before you go to bed at night. A few glasses of water would be recommended. Foods digesting while you sleep can contribute to phlegm".

....I found this so interesting. Does this mean it has something to do with the way I digest food? Why giving up coffee and soda? I do drink coffee in the morning every day. I know it isn't good, but I love the taste, and I love the caffeine boost!

p.s. hope to hear from you again...
I did eat alot of salsa last night and I felt less spit up today!...so is this the hot idea, like pepper you recommended?

Dr. Tony,
You're reply to the guy that has phlegm in the morning was interesting! I have had that off and on for several years. Right now I am on asthma medication for it because my lung function test was a little low. Do you think abnormal eating, digestion, etc. could cause the lungs to function a little below normal? I don't have typical asthma. I use to get bronchitis a lot and cough, but in the last year I have built up my immune system with supplements and have been healthy. But I have never wheezed, or had nightime symtoms, and had an "attack" But this diagnosis is a second opinion, so I'm not ingnoring it. I do take Advair, lot of vitamin C, magnesium, B's, nose spray and I have been walking /running 2 miles a day. Even my allergy doctor said you can increase lung capacity by really working the lungs. So I exercize and really get my lungs going for about 45 minutes a day. But I have often wondered if I cut out sugar completely (this is my weakness) and the bad carbs, would it make a difference. I would like your opinion. Thanks>
