I had my first OB over Christmas.
After completely changing my diet, (barely any carbs, awesome veggies.. good stuff!) My ob's completely went away. This is when I was off meds, etc... Well I went to my doctor who told me it had nothing to do with diet... In a way I felt like I could start drinking coffee/sugars again ( i know its not healthy in general...) Well I had the tingle, and felt the start of an ob and I started taking ayciclovir again. The outbreak has stayed, even with 1600 mg a day. I am convinced now that my diet had everything to do with me not getting an outbreak.. Plus it had me feeling better all around. I'm going back to it.
Thanks to everyone for your advice and your help, and I'm a believer that a total health approach is the best. You really cant rely on the antiviral meds to cure...... Does anyone have experience with an antiviral med which truly helps? I thought ayciclovir was best... I'm beginning to question..
Eat well! Sleep well! Be happy!
Tanks guys.

Hi Rachel,
Your doctor sounds like he’s waving the FDA flag and is interested only in selling expensive drugs. I bet s/he’s the type of doctor who would tell you that buying generic brands of drugs deprives us of research of diseases and development of new drugs. This type of doctor is an “industry boy” (or girl), and is brainwashed by the system that trained him/her. The only thing buying generic deprives us of is yet another cocky drug company exec’s new Ferrari, paid for by some new drug that does more harm than good (the category most drugs fall into, in my opinion).

We all know that the cliché “you are what you eat” is completely literal. The strength of the immune system is what defines the severity of herpes, the better nutrition we provide it the better it can fight it. Any doctor who says otherwise should not be a doctor. But there’s the problem with society, we blindly trust them. My Mom read somewhere that it is now believed that we are the first generation in history that will not live as long as our parents’. It makes me think of a song lyric:

“All are gone…..all but one
No contest, nowhere to run,
No more left……only one
This is it, this is the countdown to extinction”

It really is bizarre for even the most narrow-minded of doctors to say that diet has nothing to do with it.
Diet has everything to do with everything. I hope you're seriously considering a new doctor... one with a broader scope!!!!
Keep taking good care of yourself, eating well and taking care of your body by excercising, resting and trying to have a positive mindframe in general. This is our first and most important line of defense, not just for herpes but for all illness.

Oh, and nonexist... thanks for that uplifting quote from Megadeath. I'm surprised Hallmark hasn't bought the rights to that one for a greeting card yet! ;)
