View Full Version : Which is better: short term or PPO health insurance?

I need temporary health insurance, but not sure whether to get short term or PPO insurance. The pre-certification requirement with short term insurance makes me nervous, b/c what if the hospital forgot to pre-certify me after I was admitted, or didnt follow all of the necessary precertify procedures? The insurance co. could always claim the hospital precertified incorrectly. Plus, if I developed a disease, the insurance expires after 6 months and I would no longer be covered.

I've found a PPO policy that seems to cover more than a short term policy (including doctor visits and prescriptions), but with cheaper premiums. Also, PPO doesn't expire. The catch is you have to visit a network of doctors, but that's ok with me. So which one, short term or PPO?
