Hello -

I am new to this board and I'm really glad I found it.
I am planning on seeing my doctor this Friday to find out if I have anemia. I am always tired, have no appetite. I had a partial thyroidectomy last January (not taking hormone supplements) and this might be related to it. I don't know.

My question is: do you need to be on an empty stomach before having your blood drawn for the anemia test?

I hope someone will let me know asap.

Thank you.

Call your doc's office to make sure they don't want to test for other things. Just to get a blood count, you don't have to have an empty stomach.

when you are being tested for anemia it doesnt make a difference whether you have the test performed on an empty stomache or not so its totally up to you. good luck

If you had part of your thyroid removed, you need to be on thyroid hormone and that is probably why you are tired.
