View Full Version : Iron-Rich Foods

Although my dr. has told me that my anemia is probably not caused by poor eating habits (she said that you practically have to be malnouriched to be anemic from not eating right), I still want to try to eat foods with a lot of iron in them. I figure it can't hurt by trying to eat more foods with iron.

Since I don't want to eat liver (yuck!), here are some of the foods I've been eating that are rich in iron:

Dried apricots
Prunes
Whole unsalted almonds
Kidney beans
Spinach
Brocolli
Oatmeal

I'd appreciate any other food suggestions...this is sort of a "double-edged sword" for me, because my cholesterol is high, so I don't want to eat a lot of red meat. I'm trying to eat more iron, yet lower my cholesterol.
