View Full Version : Anemic, but no symptoms

I've been diagnosed with iron-deficiency anemia, but I don't have any symptoms such as those I've seen people list on this board, other than being a little tired. I'm not complaining that I don't have any symptoms, I just think this is rather strange, since my hemotacrit (sp?) and hemoglobin levels are very low.

In fact, I would have never known that I was anemic if I hadn't had gone to donate blood to the Red Cross & gotten rejected.

Anyone else out there with no symptoms?

Hi, I am in exactly the same situation. I did what I thought was the right thing by becoming a blood donor back in April, a ferritin level of 6 was discovered. I have always had energy and survive easily on 6-7 hours sleep. I am a 45 year old female. Since then I had a course of iron pills which did not agree with me. For 2-3 months I have been having iron injections. My latest results were that my level had gone up to 12 and my haemoglobin to 11.7. My doctor is not happy with this, says it is not a significant change.
Am waiting to see a specialist WHICH I HATE THE THOUGHT OF ! I feel just great but am very sick of thinking about iron levels ALL THE TIME

Bindy15, I agree with you-getting tired of thinking about "iron" all the time and what foods have lots of iron, etc.

But, at least we don't have lots of anemia symptoms, right?

My hemoglobin is 9.1, hemotacrit is 28.0, and ferratin is 2.

I started taking the iron supplements about two weeks ago, and not tolerating them very well. Yesterday, I asked my family dr. if there was any way to take them where I wouldn't get that queasy feeling. She advised me to eat breakfast first, but then wait for 1-2 hours then take my iron tablet with a little orange juice. She told me to do the same thing at night after dinner. This way, I already have food in my stomach, so I shouldn't get queasy, but there won't be any iron absorption problem because I've waited 1-2 hours to take the tablet. I hope this works!
