I have been on iron supplements for quite a while and they are not working. I have been thinking about getting the iron shots, but I haven't been able to get enough information to make a decision. Has anyone had the iron shots? How often do you have to take them and did they work for you?

I had my first today, and it hurt like he**. My HGB is 7 and I am 28 weeks pg. Trying to avoid a transfusion. I think I'd rather have a transfusion!

I noticed your other post just now. I have also had a gastric bypass. 2 1/2 yrs ago.

I had them once when my anemia was detected, and after that I was put on an iron supplement and given bcp's. But I never take them regularly.
