Wow, a new message board. I hope I didn't lose contact with everyone. I have been having a few bad days with flare-ups in my neck, feet, hip, and hands.I come back and everything has changed! I am taking so many meds with hardly any relief. Any tips on flare-ups? I have Osteo with spurs on the neck, feet and knee. And SI area rides high with spasms and locking of the knee and hip. My hands are messed up with Osteo in my wrists and Carpel Tunnel Syndrome in my right hand and terrible injury to my left thumb and wrist.(Long story!) Pat where are you? Thanks, Raven

Raven: I am here, but I am sooooooo lost. When I am clicking on these, all I am seeing is one message. I don't know how to get to the long page of messages like it used to be. Lucky for me, yours and yours alone popped up, thus I was able to reply. I hurt too much to sit here and try to figure all of this out. It was so simple before and I am afraid I am going to lose touch with a lot of people. I am lucky I can sit long enough to post without having to spend precious "sit up time" figuring stuff out. My private email is strap@theofficenet.com, just in case I am unable to find you again. I wish they would have left well enough alone. So much for my whinning.

I was wondering if you caught pneumonia from your hubby. How is your husband doing? So sorry you have been hurting. The Vicodin isn't working for you? If not, I am very sorry for that. Remember I told you I had a doctor from Virginia tell me how to find a pain management doctor and that I could not remember his name. Well, I found it. His name is Hugh Allen. That is just in case, down the road, you find that your doctor isn't providing what you need. I have his email, but I have never tried to use it. If you need or want his private email, let me know. This is just for you for the future.

I really have concerns whether this will even get to you. So, I won't get into my "book" writing. Take care, PatG

Pat,
I got it!!! It even sent me a e-mail telling me you responded! I like that feature. Well, The vicodin makes me very sick to my stomach. I even eat foods but when I went to bed last night I felt nauseated and my stomach hurt. Then I woke up to a burning stomach. The day before I had pain even when I pushed on the pit of my stomach. Doctor said to stop the pills. I 've just went to pick up my RX of Davocet. Why doesn't he want to give me Percocet or Perdodan? I know that he knows of my stomach problem I had a ulcer from Anti-inflammories. And he is very careful what he gives me. But I still don't know what to do. How are you feeling? The cold weather we are having isn't helping me much. Even my neck is catching and cracking.
I didn't get Pneumonia but I have a cough. My hubby is back to work but he keeps telling me I need to find some kind of work since now we are totally broke! What on earth could I possibly do? I cryed myself to sleep last night. This is such a mess! Anyways, I am glad you gave me your e-mail just in case I loose you. If you want to e-mail me Hugh's e-mail I think I will contact him. My e-mail is sakotah@yahoo.com Wow I just hit the down arrow to go to the bottom of the page and then I see your post. Wow this may be better than the other board. It is just going to take a while to figure this out! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/confused.gif Wow, check out the smiles Legend on the left. I just made that smilie. Keep in touch. I hope you get this. Thanks, Raven :D

Dear Raven: When I get flareups, I try to lay down a little more often during flareup time. I either add heat or ice to the body parts that are flaring up. I had a flare up for two days this past weekend; in my neck, it was due to vaccumming. My husband said he'd do that from now on. Oh sure, I will ask him to do it and maybe it will get done 1 week later (then you can't imagine how many "things" in the rug I have to look at!).
According to this arthritis thing I read, we are supposed to lie down 10 min. every hour to rest our joints. If you have young kids, that is next to impossible!

I am sorry about your financial situation. Right now, we took a pretty good hit this summer and we are living on a cash advance on our credit card. It was a deal to be treated as a purchase, which is less finance charges than an actual cash advance. I need to go to work, too, but how? Not in my physical shape and the bummer is, I will most likely never be able to work again. I just don't think your husband really understands the severity of your problem. You know, do you think he would go with you to your doctor and perhaps your doctor could explain your situation to him? Just a thought.

I cannot believe you are interested in dog training. We raise German Shepherds!!!! Right now, we have 6 dogs. I keep telling these dogs that I have too many dogs. Every now and then, we'd end up with an extra puppy that wouldn't sell. So, thus we have 6 dogs! Our female is getting old and she just hasn't been making any more puppies.

That doctor's email was given to me a couple of years ago, so I hope it still works for you. If not, I did give you his address, didn't I? Email is: <hugh.allen@vmmc.org)
I have a dot between hugh and allen, but usually email's don't have dots there, so try it with and if it doesn't work, try it without the dot.

I'd try one of these icons, but I can't remember what they all mean. My luck, I'd try to figure them out and lose this message I worked so hard to type.

Regarding the vicodine, you may be like my son and allergic to some of these things. I've had a pain in my stomach the last few days, but it isn't from my pills. It is a "sick" (virus) of some sort. The reason the darvocet maybe okay is because darvocet is of the family of methadone (the stuff they use to get people off of heroine). Demoral is of the same family as darvocet and that would be the stronger drug of choice for you, if you are allergic to the opiates. My son-in-law used to be a DEA agent and he gave me a book on abusable drugs, and this is how I know this stuff. If your doctor gave you percocet or percodan (one has aspirin and one has tylenol in it; that is the difference), he would be giving you a drug of the same "family". However, figure this one out: My allergic son can take Codeine! I asked my druggist and he said it is a different compound. My son could not take morphine, oxycodone, hydrocodone (vicodine), but he can take Codeine. You may be the same way.

Well, I hope you are doing better. This cold weather we've been having here in Washington state, (record low -2 at night!) hasn't been too good for me either. Between that and vaccuuming, I've been hurting for 3 days. Today I finally feel a bit better. Take care, Raven! Pat G.

Oh! how funny. I raise German Shepherds and Manx cats. I am just a hobby breeder and up until a few years ago I was active in Search and Rescue. I still am a member but haven't really done any wilderness searches in awhile. I was training dogs up until Feb. What type of Shepherd do you raise? German American, mix of both like me? Do you have a kennel name/website? My cats are so much easier to work with since my arthritis and problems have gotten worse. I also get migraines. I think my dogs and cats are the only thing that keep me going.
As for the pain medicines. I can't take Codeine either. It causes me to be sick on the stomach. But not like some of the others. I need to go get my daughter from the bus. I'll check in later. Raven(Deb)

Hi Pat,
I certainly wish you a very happy Turkey Day! I have no plans this year. Both my parents are too old to cook and I am unable now. It is possible I may order some prepared turkey dinner and take it to my folks but I will decided after speaking to my husband who is in Mass. trucking and should be home tonight. I am sitting by the computer waiting to hear how one of my older pups plane trip went. I shipped her to Mexico City. A Polish man living there will be showing her. I went to the Airport yesterday and shipped her off. It snowed but didn't stick on Monday and I was worried I wouldn't get her sent before we get the bad winter predicted, so I went down and got her off. My pain has been bad some days and not too bad other days. I have been getting a lot of bad headaches upon waking up in the morning. And then the migraines come. Sunday was my best day. I didn't take any pain meds at all. Pain was tolerateable(sp) But I paid badly Monday with neck pain, foot pain, hip pain, back pain and both of my my hands. The temp has been 20-15 degrees at night and around 30 in the day here which doesn't help me at all. So please tell me about your dogs? Didn't you say you had German Shepherds? I have alot of cats, 3 go outside but the rest live inside. I have 5 rescues and 7 adult Manx with 13 kittens. Now I have 5 German Shepherds here. Oh and a Iguana and some Gerbils belonging to my daughter. They are all too much for me to care for. I have 3 other Shepherds for sale and some cats too. Well I am battling a cough now and I have lost my voice. Do stay healthy and keep in touch. Hugs, Raven

Hi Raven:
I posted my dog info. on the site you had posted in your last post on this board. That is a really nice dog site. The Shepherds are beautiful!!

Did your husband get home for Thanksgiving? It is hard when you see your parents age and I can understand why they wouldn't be cooking. Eighties is getting up there, no doubt. My dad died at 84 and mom died at 66. Mom died of heart disease and dad died of pneumonia. I just can't "go here" (parents) because now I am getting teary eyed. Sorry.....

I know how that cold weather can mess with the old pain. Gosh, don't you wish we could meet in the Bahamas at that new Atlantis place? Have you see it advertised? You walk under the ocean in a tube and see all the fish (including sharks) swimming around you. Talk about good for our pain...think about it, the warm sun on our joints. Yeah, that would be great!!

Did you ever try to contact that doctor whose website I gave you? Did it work? I don't know what can work for you; however, I got some information about some new therapies from another chronic pain sufferer named Francesca. I call her "the wise one", because all her answers to people's posts are so intelligent yet simple. She told me, "Pass it on to Raven." It is two things. One is Tru-OPC's by Nature's Way and the other is called AG-Immune which has Arabinogalactan in it, which is supposed to be an anti-immflammatory and a "God-send" for arthritis sufferers. This was according to Francesca. She said a lady on the old site here recommended it to me and that the lady was right on. I scrolled through all the old messages and I couldn't find it. Maybe it got erased or I missed it. I haven't tried any of these things other than Glucosamine. That didn't seem to do much for me. Also, I saw on this old message board info about the U.K. actually coming up with a cure for R.A. I don't know how it is with ostheoarthritis, but I guess now there is a seminar in Atlanta, GA., about it. Sometime you may want to try the back pain board, as there are a lot of us chronic pain people there. It seems everyone has a little something to offer and the more I can learn or understand, the better off I feel I am. Sometimes I just like to hear what others go through and the compassionate things that people offer each other. I guess it sort of makes me feel "warm and fuzzy" inside.

Well, it appears I am getting into the old "book mode" again. Raven, take care of yourself, PatG
