I will be singing at my sister's wedding in about a week and am concerned that I will be so nervous I will not do as well as I can. I have had this problem once before when singing at church - I got so nervous I shook all over and had trouble controlling my voice. I have sung publicly for several years but only that one (last) time did I get so panicky. I am more nervous about being nervous than I am about singing! I am wondering if anyone knows of a natural remedy for nerves. I am currently taking 5htp and fish oil for depression/anxiety. I also take GABA calm before bed but am going to get a GABA supplement to take regularly. I was not taking any of these to help with my depression/anxiety when I last sang. Maybe they will help? I have some Hyland's Calms Forte but am not sure it would be effective enough. I saw at the store they also make a Nerve Tonic. Anyone tried it? All suggestions are appreciated. Thank you.

Hi sidnee74,
You might try a valerian root tincture. Tastes like a dirty gym-sock smells, but if you can get past THAT, it works quite well, and is easy to find in health stores. I suggest trying it once before performance date just to be sure it will work for you.
I have a MUCH larger (than me) (male)friend who took the suggested dose, and slept the day thru. Whereas, I(female) can take 1 1/2x's the suggested dose, and just feel super relaxed. So, I'm guessing the reaction is a VERY individual thing. (though my teen daughter reacts as I do)
hope this helps,

There are actually several natural herbal supplements available for this, the one already reccomended, valerian, is excellent. Some others include kava kava, and skullcap. I have never used it but I have read some pretty amazing results on the use of blue vervain. I would suggest some research on this one before using it.
