I've had these major headaches for a couple months along w/pressure in head/ears/cheek area. I can't seem to catch my breath, I yawn a lot. Twice I've woken up with my face and fingers all swollen. I've been checking my BP lately (a friend's advice) and it's been 130/88 the first day, 132/90 the second day. My BP is always in the 110/70 range. Do you think my symptoms are BP related or is it perhaps the anxiety of now knowing what is causing these headaches? Oh, I took a .05 ativan one hour before my second BP reading just to see if it would go down and it didn't. I'm only 41 yrs old.

Yes. Iam abit older than you, and I've had hbp along time. B4 I was on a channel blocker, now I'm on zestril, verapamil, and avapro, all ace inhibitors. It is a known fact some bp meds can cause headaches, swollen joints, and muscle pain. I went into the national institute of health's website to look up the symptoms of my meds. Zestril made me feel exactly the way you described. I discontinued using it and felt better. However, my bp went up so I had to get back on it. I too yawn alot and have insominia every night.

stellinator,

A raised BP won't cause headaches unless it's SUPER high and a stroke risk. (I once read that they clocked readings of near 300/200 with FDR (who had ferocious headaches and died of a cerebral hemmorhage) but all they had for BP control was phenbarbitol which doesn't work very well...they tried restricting his salt and martinis and had little luck doing either. :D

On the other hand several of the meds CAN causeheadaches.

jtu,

You're really on three classes of drugs:

Zestril (lisinopril): ACE Inhibitor
Verapamil: Calcium Channel Blocker
Avapro (irbesartan): ARB (or ACE Reuptake Blocker)

Does the Zestril make you cough all the time?

For me that bp reading would be wonderful, I have battled high BP half my life.Avapro has sent me to the hospital one time, was taking 500mg. plus 5 other drugs , and had a chemical reaction. There are few drugs I can take, and only low doses seem to work , higher ones give me big problems.
I was taking Lisinipril at bedtime but stopped it at night as felt horrible, am trying it a different time now.I get the roaring in my ears from it plus other things.akjoha
