View Full Version : Help! Hair Horror

My hair has become very brittle and dry. It's definitely overprocessed- straightening (chemically and electronically), colored, blow-dried... it's not the way it LOOKS that I'm worried about- it actually looks pretty shiny and healthy... but it is'nt at all. The ends are split, and every time I brush my hair, pieces break off if I'm not careful. It's SO dry and weak.

Any advice? Should I go to a salon? Any good deep-conditioners I can purchase? I want to nurse my hair back to health! Thanks in advance.

there really isn't anything that can cure split ends permanently, really the only option is to get it cut, but that doesn't get all the hair (like if you had layers or something) but a product that seems to work really well is the split ender. It's pretty much a device that you sandwich sections of the hair like a flat iron or something and you pull it through your hair, when it comes to the split end, it will gently pull it off and take off the brittle end. It takes a hardly noticable length off the end and leaves the healthy hair so you don't have to chop off the healthy hair. I'm probably going to purchase it in a few days (i'm short on funds at the moment :( ) but i have friends that have one and it seems to work great for them!
hope this helps!

unfortunately if it's that damaged the split ender is not going to help... I would say go to a salon.. have as much cut off as you dare.. I would say a minimum of 1 inch to catch all the split ends.. and then invest in a deep conditioning treatment, and something to protect it from all the heat you're using on it..

garnier fructis, v05 hot oil, and john frieda frizz ease are good conditioning treatments, and Catwalk has a *fantastic* new heat protecting gloss product that smells delicious (I forget the specific name but it's in a purple sqeeze bottle).. it's a little more expensive.. $14 a bottle.. but it's a big bottle and you don't have to use much at all

I blow dry and use a curling or flat iron on my hair everyday and what seems to protect it and mend the split ends is a polishing serum. I like Rusk brand and also citre shine. I deep condition 2 x's a week also with Infusium 23 Power Pac.

Cut off all the split ends or else it will split more and more. Try avoiding using the blowdryer if you can. Deep conditioners do help, but I've found out that i have to leave them on for 1/2 hour in order for it to really penetrate the hair shaft.

Redkin Cat (something) Serum. Works great. Get it at your salon.
