View Full Version : Fibromyalgia caused by thyroid malfunction in my case

I know that fibromyalgia is likely caused by many things, in many people. That there is probably not just one cause of fibromyalgia, nor one cure.

I had sooo much pain with fibro, so much fatigue, and Interstitial Cystitis to boot which is often considered one of the fibro diseases.

Since I have been taking thyroid medication, my fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue symptoms (as well as depression and allergies) have mysteriously vanished.

Now when I hear a person has fibromyalgia, I always ask if they've had their thyroid checked. I know that fibro isn't always caused by thyroid problems, but I think probably at least some cases are caused by that.

Anyway, thought I'd tell my story in the hopes that it might help someone.

Hi,

I agree.

I'm the opposite. I've had FM for over 3 years now and developed hypothyrodism 6 months ago. I did have regular bloodwork done due to other medical problems. Since taking thyroid meds, I have had a slight decrease in pain and a difference in fatigue. The biggest difference is, I am not shivering cold all the time. :)

What amazes me, is doctors give up too easily sometimes. A full blood workup should be done first to rule out any other disorders and then on a regular basis after.

I'm happy to hear that your symptoms have
disappeared. :bouncing:

I also tell others with FM to have their thyroids checked as well.

Hugs Destiny

Crystal Spirit,

I never thought about my fibro symptoms decreasing somewhat about six months after I started taking Synthroid .05mg. Could this really be the reason?? Anyone else have this happen to them ??

By the way, Neurontin didn't help me much at all. Even after increasing gradually up to 1200mg daily.
