Hi Everyone! It's Kaitie. I haven't written in forever and a half but I have been reading.

My latest greatest? I'm finally off of the Evil Topamax (replaced by Lamictal). But NOW I'm having like a million Ka-jillion seizures a day. CP's and Absence. I'm like a total goofball - people will ask me things and I'll be like - mmmm. Thats all I can manage.

On top of that I have a migraine from **** and grrr...it's only been like a week since I've been completely off.

This is not a good sign! Is this standard for adjustment or am I destined to be back on that HORRIBLE HORRIBLE DRUG???????? :eek:

:wave: I'm Crystal I'm in the process of going off of Topamax too. It's really hard. I have to cut my pills a little at a time and stay on that for about a week and then cut a little more. When I tried to go down 25mg / day I got horrible headaches. My doctor added the other drug with the Topamax but I really think I need to at least go down. The topamax helps my migraines but not my seizures. If you cut off the topamax all at once or too fast that's why you have the headache. It's horrible too! "hugs" for you. How long has this been going on? Did you ween off in a week or all at once last weeK? Anyway, I wish you well. Crystal

Topamax has been my wonder drug in a way. Its the only med that has even put a dent in my seizures. i still have a LONG way to go but I'm getting there. My neuro put me on Magnesium Oxide 400mg to help me with side effects of this med, anyways, I notice if I miss a dose of Topamax I get terrible headaches. So are you saying they get worse when/if you are taken off this med?? The mag oxide was to help with headaches that the topamax was giving me.


I keep hearing bad things about this drug, but its helping me! I mean yes I'm having side effects, but I can live with those if it means less or no seizures!!! I'm only up to 75mg and I go see my neuro again on Feb. 2nd and I am intending to ask him to up me more than just 25mg like he has been. Any opinions on this?? I'm averaging about ten days without a seizure which increases everytime he increases my meds, so.... why not bump it alittle faster?? I don't mean 100mg or anything but more than 25mg, maybe 50mg.... opinions???

Lamictal was my first seizure med, and I still have seizures. That's why my neuro is upping my dosage. Currently at 400, but he said he wants to go up to 500.

I've noticed that when I went up to 100 mg a day, I actually had more seizures. It's really strange. I understand where you are coming from when someone asks you a question. It takes me about a minute to fully understand what they are asking. I almost feel brain dead. And my memory, it SUCKS!!!!! I feel like I'm going downhill. I'm not having the de ja vu anymore which is kinda nice. I never thought I had "special powers" anyway, :) Now this just confirms it.
