Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone can give me some advice on antidepressants and binge eating disorder? I have BED, and I am pretty sure I am depressed. I try to get myself to "snap out of it" and seem friendly and stuff, but I still can't control my binges, no matter how good or bad i feel . Is anyone on any antidepressants for binge eating/depression? Can someone give me some advice, or even suggest who I should tlak to about this? I have a dietician, but that is all...

I would suggest talking to a therapist or counselor. While a dietician is great, a therapist can help get you to the core of your issue with food. The binge in not really about the food, it is about something deeper. It is different for each of us. Anit-depressents may help with your binge eating, but I would suggest again getting someone to speak with about what is going on inside you. Many times your insurance has options, but there are many resources on the web that can help you find someone to see. Just make sure you look till you find the right one. Having a good relationship with your therapist makes all the difference. Don't settle for the first one you see unless you really feel they can help you. I am not a binge-eater but bulimic and i was started on an AD last week. They havent done much for my depression so far but they do generally take a few weeks to kick in buti think anxiety is a big feature in any ED and i am a little more relaxed and sleeping better. I am on a sedating kind as i seem to tolerate these better.If you find the right AD i think it can help you.xxx
