Hi
I'm a 20 years old female with Costocondritis and I was just put on Vioxx. I was just wondering how long someone has to take this?
Costo . .is inflamation of the rib cage (upper rib cage)The doctor only gave me a percription for 30 days . . ..
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Vioxx has been explained to me, to be like taking a strong Tylenol. It is a pain killer but mostly a muscle relaxant, it worked great for my arthritis. I imagine you will be on Vioxx untill your condition is corrected ( if Posible ) or untill there is another solution. ?????????????
Good Luck,
Stiffjim

Vioxx is closer to an asperin than to Tylenol. It's a Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory. These have their limitations as to the length of time some people can take them. Ask yor doc about effects on gastrointestinal tract. Some people bleed badly, and death is possible in a few. Look at Vioxx's web site.

Vioxx is an new class of Non Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory called Cox2 inhibitors. It reduces inflammation and thus pain. It is thought to be less hard on the stomach than previous types of NSAIDs like, Aleve, Relafen all of which cause stomach bleeding. Vioxx can cause some water retention and often ankle swelling and can effect your kidneys over time.

I think you are supposed to be on it for a while or untill you heal. Not sure what Costo is or how long it lasts.
