I'm 16 years old and I have CFS. Over the past year I've lost alot of weight and I have no idea why. I am having trouble putting on weight. I've got down to 46kg (roughly 101 lbs) and im 5'5".

If this has nothing to do with CFS do you have any idea why I could be losing weight?

Thankyou for any help

i am almost same as you im 17 5'5 and have lost about a stone in the last year, i think it is part of cfs, because for me if i am feeling nauseious (sp?) i wont eat, or very tired you just dont feel up to it. Also maybe smoething to do with burning up energy very quickly? fast metabolism? not sure but it is common as is gaining weight in cfs ppl. What % are you? im 75% so relatively active (can do 70-90% school and a lil exercise each week), if you are bedbound, or very unactive, and eating normally but losing weight there maybe another underlying problem, so spk to your doc about it.

Kylie,
Loosing weight like that is not normal and you should be thoroughly checked for problems with your adrenal gland. Addisons disease or adrenal insufficiency is many times mistakenly diagnosed as CFS initally. Addisons is a malfunction of your adrenal gland or pituitary gland that causes a disruption of the hormones cortisol and sometimes aldosterone. Cortisol is essential in digestion among other things. It will cause your body to not need food or not digest any food eaten if it is not present in sufficient quanities. You can also become quite nauseated if you do eat. Cortisol and aldosterone are also necessary to maintain the body's hydration levels and Blood Pressure. CFS mimics addisons in many ways and only through very careful testing by a qualified endocrinologist should you declare one over the other. Again many in the Addisons community have been inccorectly diagnosed with CFS and sufferered for years. Not everyone with symptoms of CFS has addisons but some will. Make sure you have ruled that out. HeatherW

Thankyou guys for the info :) And thanks for wishing me better CrystalSpirit. I've been to the doctor and I'm going to get a bunch of blood tests taken to see what's happening with me.
