Well guys.....I'm the first surgery in the AM. I have to check in the hospital at 5:30am and my surgery will be at 7:30am. I'm really nervous this morning. They kept going over all the risk with me yesterday in my pre-op and pre-admit visits and now I'm very scared.
They said because my spinal cord is severly compressed they will be putting a camera down my throat (about the size of an ink pen) before the use the breathing tube because they can't tilt my head back as normal...has anybody else had this done ?
Thanks for all your support and information over the past several months. Wish me luck! I'll let you know how it goes......

Good luck my dear,
I did not have what is necessary for you this time, but the first time i was scheduled for surgery I did since my head could not tilt either without compromising my spinal chord. They usually offer you a sedative in order to insert the tube/camera so take it and relax your way into this operation.
I had my surgery Nov. but the disc was shattedered by then and compressing on the chord above, to the next vertebrae, so they had to shovel out that vertebrae to access all the shattered pieces.
Either way, nothing about this operation is pleasant but remember WHY YOU ARE DOING IT: to alleviate pain (all or some), to spare yourself paralysis and frankly for me during this whole neck/back problem TO TAKE SOME CONTROL OVER MY BODY AND LIFE AND MAKE MY OWN DECISIONS ABOUT MY FUTURE instead of being fearful of falling, rear ended or a slave to perpetual unimproved pain.
You take care now.... (I''ll pray for you tongiht and many of us I am sure are) God Bless, and close your eyes and wake up tomorrow with a new chance at controlling the pain and the debilitation this has caused you. ALL THE POWER TO YOU.
