Hi all
I would like to know what exercise machine do you prefer? and why?
Also, what have been your results in your quest to lose weight.
Thanks,
Orquidea

Hi Orquidea!
I started out on the treadmill but then I gave the elliptical a try. I found I like it better. Judging from the calorie counts I burn more as well. I feel more challenged with the elliptical which keeps me motivated. My butt is starting to move up to which is very nice! I also found that I'm working more of my inner thigh which is a huge (no pun intended) problem area. My knees and hips don't hurt as much either since the extra weight I'm carrying is hard on my joints. Also I can read a magazine while I'm on it so I don't even realize it's been a 1/2 hour. I'm really growing to love the elliptical.

I vote for elliptical. My foot doctor said treadmills are hard on feet.

I forgot about that point. I have plantar facitous (I'm sure I spelled it wrong) but since I've been on the elliptical the tendon along the bottom of my foot isn't as tight and I'm not in as much pain.

You are right Rdaviso about the calories. I did 30 min treadmill and then 30 min elliptical and there were more calories burn out from the elliptical machine. I wish I can read a magazine while on the elliptical. Do you move your arms too? or do you just move your lower body?
Another thing that I like about the elliptical is that it shows you what zone is targeting. For example, bun, calves, upper legs, etc.
It seems that it is a most complete workout at the elliptical. But I was wondering if it was better the treadmill for losing weight.
Are you using the elliptical as maintain your health or for weight loss cardio workout?
Thanks

I find I work *harder* on the treadmill, even though the caloric count is lower. Conversely, it takes nothing for my elliptical calorie count to be high, and yet I haven't even broken a sweat yet!
As a result of this, I tend to rotate between the two machines. They do say the elliptical is better for your knees, and you have the option of going backwards (which really intensifies the workout!). Of course, it's always good to keep changing your workout routines anyway, so that your body doesn't plateau. :)

Yesterday, I did the elliptical for 33 min and according to the stats I burnt almost 300 calories. Thats definetly more than the treadmill.
I am going to be switching between the two machines so I do not get bored. Also, as you said it is good for the body to have different exercise routines.
I still cannot read while on the elliptical. Any tips? :D

I also enjoy using the eliptical machine at my gym, rather than just the treadmill all the time, and being a college student, I try to catch up on some reading while doing it--it is difficult! I can't suggest anything because I have the same problem, but I just wanted to let you know that you weren't alone! :)

I sweat buckets (very attractive I know) when I am on the elliptical. I think I may just be a "sweater". The machines at my gym have a ledge on them that a book or magazine can rest on so that's how I read. The machines that don't have a ledge they have a removable book holder that hooks onto the display part. As a bonus I'm not staring at how long I've been on it and watching the seconds tick by. I still use both the treadmill and elliptical and will ad a class every now and again to mix it up and challenge myself. I've noticed a bigger difference with the elliptical in my tush and thighs though. I feel like I'm doing more on it and that's why I like the elliptical more.

I sweat as a crazy too. But I do not care because I am working out. It will be embarrising if I am in another place and sweat. :D
I drink alot of water. I get up and I have to drink at least one big glass of water and during the day I drink a lot of water, I do not know how many glass but I think more than the eight glasses recommended. So, I think is normal that I sweat too much. Normally, after I finish my workout my t-shirt is all wet.
About reading, well I think I will stick with my music for now.
Yeah! I can feel that my butt is working out on the elliptical. I hope to shrink some way my legs or otherwise get toned and firm. ;)
