PrettBoi,
I'm sorry to read that you have to wait for such a long time to be seen. Have you tried talking with them about your condition to see if they can bump you up? In my opinion, that's far too long to have to wait.
In the meantime, I would suggest that you try to muster the confidence to talk about your feelings with someone who you trust. Do you know anyone who fits that description? Also, if you feel that you have the energy, you might want to invest some time in reading up on the condition. I know that I felt better able to deal with it once I learned some good strategies to combat it. One such area that you might look into is CBT (Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy). It did wonders for me and, from what I understand, it has helped a lot of other people in your boat.
Keep us posted on how you're doing. If you feel like you can share with us, please don't hesitate to talk with us about your feelings :-).

Hi Prettyboi-
CBT was the answer for me, but you get out of it what you put into it as it is not a magic cure. The more you use the tools it teaches the sooner and deeper the relief you will receive. My two favorite books on CBT are Feeling Good by David Burns and Been There, Done That? Do This! by Sam Obitz. They are both great books but I usually recommend the Obitz book first as it is a quick and easy read and some get overwhelmed by the Burns book as it is a less friendly read but an outstanding CBT resource. Take care and good luck!

Do a search for "depression test" there are a lot of sites that have self tests listed. Also, if you feel you are too depressed to wait til March, why not discuss this with your family doctor & he may be able to prescribe something til you get in to see the pdoc.

The book "Feeling Good" does have a quiz in the beginning. My score on that was the same as on all the quizes I've taken on line, and all the ones counselors have given me, so I'd say it's as accurate as anything.
You can also do a search on "depression screening" or "depression screening tests." There are a LOT of them out there. I know of two off the top of my head, but as I understand it, we're not supposed to post links. Check out "depression-screening.org" and "save.org."

Good advice and those tests are pretty standardized :)
