My dr. prescribed Trazadone (50mg) to help me sleep. My question is, what time of the evening should I take it to avoid a hung-over feeling in the mornings? Also, what side-effects have you experienced while taking the drug? Not weight gain, I hope. :o

I have been taking trazodone for 2 weeks now.I found the earlier i take it the better..I take 2 -50 mg's pills a night.I need to get up at 7;30 every day except weekends..I take it around 9 pm and im in bed by 10 pm ..sleepin like a baby since starting this med!!!!!! I hadnt slept well in 4 months!!!! I dont feel hung over at all...I have not had weight gain from it yet.I am also on zoloft 50 mg's a day..Since adding the trazodone .I am feelin great during the day and sleepin beautifully!!!

Thanks. Hi Hacamila. I have taken Trazodone in the past and I recently started again. Actually I had the doc give me a rx for it to help me sleep. And yes it does. I'm not known as a light-weight, but I usually cut a tab in half and take only 25 mgs.

Side effect wise it can dry you out. I mean I had dry mouth moderately. Have a glass or bottle of water near your bed just in case. You'll find out, or if you're lucky it won't bother you. Sometimes I don't even take it, but I also have some Clonazepam for my anxiety and take 1mg before bed.

I personally thought the Trazodone if I took 50 mgs would give me a slight hangover. I could feel it hours after waking up so that's why I cut it in half now, IF, I take it at all. I would take it about an hour before bed unless you're sort of hyper-active and then maybe 1.5 hrs. Just my opinion though.

I took 25 mg. last night. NO hangover this morning, and I feel better after getting a good nights sleep. Thanks for the suggestion. :)
