View Full Version : My mother and her feet

Hello, my mom has very poorly controlled diabetes and a multitude of other problems. My question for you is this: she has had recurrent infections in her legs and now a very serious one in the sole of her foot. She has been in wound care for a while and has been satisfied with her care.

She reported that yesterday at her appointment, where she was supposed to just the the nurse to have dressings changed, the nurse asked for them to stay a while and see the doctor. The doctor "digs around" - my mothers words - for a while and pulls out a black plug.

I'm thinking gangrene... any thoughts from any of you?

I think you should see another doctor or nurse, poorly controlled diabetes is the cause of many amputations of feet, etc

I think your mother should be seeing a wound care specialist - we didn't and my husband had his leg amputated in December - I will never get over the sense that it could have been avoided
