Does anyone have any experience with it?
I am freshly pregnant but obsessing about GD. I had it with my son, wasn't bad just diet controlled but I am concerned about having it again. I have been cutting back on my sugar intake already but am curious as to what kind of things to snack on to keep the blood sugars at a happy medium. I remember them telling me to eat small things all day long because the thing you need to try and do is keep the blood sugars at a medium level. Not to starve yourself, blood sugars drop then eat and they soar through the roof. I also remember them saying eat cheese and I think peanut butter  I have been trying to do research on this and cant seem to come up with any GOOD information.
Should I just relax and not worry about it until I get further along?

I don't have personal experience with anything but type 1 pregnancies but used to moderate a pregnant and diabetic group. I would go in and see if the OB will go ahead and do your GTT. There are two main surges in hormones that make your blood sugar go up. One happens at the beginning of the 2nd trimester and the other happens towards the end of the 3rd. I think you are right to be concerned as you have dealt with it before and research shows you will probably deal with it again.
You can eat small meals and add snacks. The best thing I found was to break it down to 6 small meals a day. Complex carbs are always good snack ideas and peanut butter is a great one. Bananas and yogurt were a favorite of mine as bananas are high in Potassium which diabetics are usually lacking. Whole wheat breads can help too.
Basically, your goal when eating, and this concerns weight gain also, is to get the most bang for your buck. Research foods and look for the one's you like. Then you can mix simple carbs and complex carbs as your diet entails. Good luck and Congratulations on your pregnancy

I had gestational diabetes in 1964 with third of five children, 2nd trimester. With the last two, who were over 9 lbs., doctors never mentioned it.

In 1987 I was diagnosed with diabetes, 16 yrs ago. Now have painful neuropathy attacks in lower legs and feet, which I've found are helped usually by drinking a lot of liquid, and I have a non-healing diabetic ulcer on a bunion callous, debridement (shaving callous off) every two or three wks, and trying to get better control by doing Atkins, wonderful diet.

I asked the Dr. how I'd know if I was getting kidney problems, and he said you'd be swelling. I'm assuming I don't need any tests about that right now.
Love Atkins and there's support forums.
