I have been sick for the past 6 years. I have seen all sorts of specialists and been treated for lots of illness'. One of my symptoms is allergies and EXTREMELY dry sinus's. I have received allergy shots for over a year with no luck. My symptoms are as follows:
Fatigue
Headaches/Migranes
Weight Gain
Depression
Irritability
Fluid Retention
Anxiety
Poor memory
Poor concentration/Brain Fog
Low sex drive
Dry skin
Low motivation
Insomnia
Allergies/other sinus problems
Breathing problems
Tired after a long sleep
Swollen glands
Lots of phlem in my throat
Extremely tight muscles

Can anyone suggest anything that might be wrong cauysing all these symptoms. I thought my allergies was a sideeffect of another ailment but maybe its the allergies cuasing all my problems after all? Anyone have any info?

A lot of your symptoms match the profile for depression. Maybe feeling like crap all the time has made you depressed? If you got treated for that, mabye you would feel good enough to fight the other things.

That's what I was going to say. Depression can cause almost all of those symptoms. You should definitely see someone about testing you for depression.

I have seen psychiatrists and psychologists. I have been on many different anxiety and depression medications over the 6 years Ive been sick. I truely feel my depresion is a symptoms linked to something else happening in my body and not the cause of all the other symptoms.

And you've already been tested for both food and respiratory allergies?

Yes I was tested for food and airborns allergies. I was allergic to almost everything they tested for. After 1 year of allergy shots I still felt no better.

Something is wrong with this picture. The doctors have to be missing something big. The being allergic to everything rings a bell. I feel like I've read something about that before. I'll have to look around.

Hi, I can totally relate to the problems you are having. I posted earlier this week on this in 'Sinus problems and....' I too believe there is a common denominator to everything I suffer because they are all present at the same time. I have been doing research over in the thyroid board and plan to get my thyroid completely tested as alot of this can be associated with thyroid problems. I was wondering if you experienced any sort of abdominal pain, particularly on the upper right side?

Two years ago I was by a psychoterapist for 7 months. My allergies and my asthma was causing me a depression. I had a hard time to accept my health problem. My allergies where getting worse and I was more confined at home. But I did not take depression medications. My famely doctor gave me for my menaupose medication after the result of my test because my system was completly debalance and that was one of the reason of my depression. I hope that this information can help you.

I think so many people do really have a biochemical, even, genetic cause for their depression. I think depression --- "it is a stigma" still in our society.
Do any other people in your family parents, sibblings, also suffer from the symtoms you have?
I think Allergies could be aggravating the depression. Are you seeing a psychiatrist at this time? If not, maybe the ones you saw before didn't find the right drug for you.
Also do you exercise, at all? I think exercise is so important for those who are prone to depression.
Hope you find the answer. I hear your frustration. Keep us posted.

I was interestd in the following mentioned by "Bigheadache"
Allergies and EXTREMELY dry sinus's
and these specific ones: on her list---
Allergies/other sinus problems
Breathing problems
Swollen glands
Lots of phlem in my throat
Curious, Crossbow, do you really think that depression causes allergies and respiratory problems? I never heard this. I have anxiety, more than depression, but my allergies seem to act up during the winter....
Would like to hear more of what you meant.

I have a few posts on the thyroid board as well. You can search my name and see what I have writen. But to sum it up I am going to look into wilsons syndrome and enlarged or tumorous thyroid gland.

I am not sure what you mean by your post. Were you treated in some way? I am not female so menopause would be out of the question if that is what your refering to.

No one in my family has exactly the same symptoms as me but there are some illness's in my famiy that I can see related to mine. First my mother had thyroid problems and had to have her gland removed. Secondly my fathers side of the family is plagued with auto immune disorders. I am looking inot both but neither are looking opptomistic. I am also being treated or TMJ right now(even though I dont have many symptoms). But the Dr thinks I am having headaches from an "off bite".
Anyone with any ideas or questions please keep them coming. I am running out of ideas and need some help from others.

Here is some information that you should look into Andropause also called males menopause : The impact of decreasing androgens is known as andropause, also called "male menopause" or PADAM – Partial Androgen Deficiency in the Ageing Male. It is a normal part of ageing, although, for some men it is accompanied by a gradual and undesired decline in their sexuality, mood and overall energy. Sometimes it can even expose men to more serious health risks. Make some research on the Internet under the word Andropause...My husband mother had problem with is thyroid but my husband past the test and he is ok. His problem is allergies with asthma like mine and he is passing through Andropause that effect his health...He sees is doctor every tree months for his checkup .... That could start early as 50 years old or lest...And it do effect the immune system...Good luck

This would not be a possibility. I am 20 years old and last year I tried using testosterone to see if I felt any better. It did not help. Thx for your imput though.

I believe you may be right, that your allergies are causing most of the other symptoms. I have many of the same symptoms (though not all), and most of my symptoms did not appear until AFTER the allergies started, with many appearing within a year or so after the allergies began. (Did you start getting allergies before you noticed most of these other symptoms?)
Thyroid problems could also be a possiblity, so it's good that you're getting thoroughly tested for that. Another possiblity could be that you might have an overabundence of some sort of pathogen, such as parasites, yeast, or bacteria. Have you ever been tested for any of these? You might try to find a naturopathic doctor, they may be more willing to work with you on this than conventional doctors (who have probably given up by now due to your large number of symptoms).
Good luck, I know it must be trying for you.

Have you looked into CFIDS? Chronic Fatigue Immuno-Deficiency Syndrome. I have been suffereing from a diagnosed sinus problem for the past 15 months and I have some of your symptoms, but not all. My biggest problems are: headache, pressure in my face and head, dizziniess, sight strain, ear pain, brain fog, all worse when the barometric pressure changes in either direction. Winter is definitely worse, but this summer was no fun either. I live in Chicago, so we have both extremes. I have very dry sinuses, to the point that I can feel the outline of my sinus cavities every time I breathe in. Except for the ones between my eyes, where I feel the most pressure. I did have sinus surgery last August, but I am still sick.
Anyway, this problem has caused me immense fatigue, I am sure the meds don't help, anxiety (I am now on Paxil) and weight loss and then gain. I had NONE of these problems until after the sinus problems started. I had minor hay fever before this, but I don't think I have any other major allergies b/c no allergy med does anything for me except make me tired. I should get some relief from something. I've tried everything, and everything for headaches too. I brought my doctor literature on CFIDS, and she say no, that's not me. Sorry if I am telling you stuff you already know, but if not, do a web search on CFIDS.
