I love chocolate. I love love love it. When I first realized that I had Herpes, I thought I would have to give it up forever. I didn't eat any for a few months. Now, however, I do eat some. Not a ton, not like an entire chocolate bar, but then I never did that before either. I eat some bites, though, or chocolate icecream or like yesterday... I made some chocolate peanutbutter treats (yes, that's chocolate AND peanut butter) and I can usually eat those alright. Herpes is so very strange. Something that triggers a ferocious OB in one person doesn't in another person. I don't eat chocolate a lot, but I can eat some. I experiement with what ammounts of things I can get away with. If I eat chocolate or drink alcohol I usually pop a litte extra Lysine before bed. inspirations 02-02-2004, 02:32 PM Reading this post surprised the heck out of me. I'm not quite sure how long I have had herpes... could have been since childhood could have been at age 19. All I know is I had something that looked like it when I was in 5th grade (Doctor called it impatigo, sure that isn't spelled right) and then I had a horrible horrible outbreak when I was 19. That is when the doc diagnosed it as herpes. (Different doc then before.) Just a little background for you all. I never knew chocolate could create outbreaks. I haven't eaten any less chocolate since I was diagnosed. Which is a pretty fair amount since I love it. This may be stupid of me to ask... does it matter whether it is oral or genital? I have oral. (Not the normal small cold sore most get. Several little blisters that cause my lip to swell up like a golf ball.) I do know they are different... HSV1 & HSV2, just don't know if chocolate only effects HSV2? guesswhosback 02-02-2004, 04:43 PM I agree...hsv affects people in different ways. I eat chocolate on a regular basis. I had my primary ob 2 years ago...and perhaps some minor irritation since then...but never another full blown ob since the first one...I use to get some tingling in the beginning but that stopped...I use to also get irritation right before my period but don't get that anymore either. I don't even take the OOO and OLE anymore....other than the fact that I come to this board to read postings....the reminder of having herpes has become minimal. I would say chocolate has had no affect on mine at all..matter of fact I will probably eat some in a few minutes....unless you actually notice that it affects you...I wouldn't just assume that it does. free_butterfly 02-02-2004, 10:39 PM I had an ob when I started my period this week. I had a box of brownie mix that someone had given me and never made it since I read that chocolate causes obs. Well, after having one I said what the hey and made the brownies. Thought I would make the one I had bigger or start to multiply. But, at this point I just didn't care and have been eating 2 brownies a day. The ob began to stop hurting by me taking Ibuprofen and I applied aloe on it several times a day. I didn't get any more obs from the chocolate which is great!!! I also have been eating Breyers chocolate ice cream. I have been treating myself as a guinea pig and stopped eating chocolate for a year or so. I still had obs during that year. When I was free from obs I started eating the icecream and didn't get any. My next test will be eating M&Ms. I do know that when I eat Oreos I get an ob the next day. earthchick 02-06-2004, 08:48 AM Thanks for your replies, I don't eat a ton af chocolate...at least by me standards, and I have had chocolate during my first OB, but than I wasn't sure what it was. any how Since i've read that choc can cause obs i have given it up cold turkey, and i am really craving some hot chocolate. and some dark chocolate almond bark. heres hoping. |
