I don't think you're supposed to post your email here.

Anyway, I have a similar problem with my eye. Try looking up "Angioedema" and see if that sounds lilke shat she has. She should see a doctor and an allergist, because if it keeps happening it could get worse, like mine did.

This is called Anaphylaxis and can be serious. I'd see a doctor. It's an allergic reaction (can be swollen or burning or tingling lips, swollen throat, problems breathing, etc.).

Hi there, your girlfriend's lip swelled most probably because she had an allergic reaction to something that she ate(since her lip swell). It's best that she go for a skin test, but usually food allergies are not 100% correct for skin test. A RAST test can be done too. Once the food allergies have been detected, advoiding it is very important. It's not advisable to kiss her if you have eaten something that she is allergic to, even you have cleaned your mouth. Swelling of the lips is not neccessarily anaphylaxis. It is called angioedema instead. However, if your girlfriend has swelling of the lips including the following symptoms like breathing difficulty, feel faint, difficulty swallowing even saliva... then it could be the start of an anaphylactic reaction. An Epi-pen is advisable for those with severe allergies(or certain allergies) and have experience anaphylaxis before. Hope this help and all the best! :)

Many years ago I had a problem with my lips swelling, spliting, bleeding and narrowed the problem down to sodium benzoate. This preservative used to be in everything ... toothpaste, potato chips, hot dogs, root beer. I see much less of it now, probably because of the problems it caused. I still read ingrediant lists and occassionally find it , but have very little problems with it now.

I think I can help with your problem, your girlfriend is experiencing Angioedema. Symtoms include lip and eye swelling, along with feet. Also hives in various parts of the body which can itch very bad and be very uncomfortable. Stress seems to be the catalyst. I have had the same thing happening to me for years and after multiple doctor and allergist visits (which din't help) I have found that taking Benedrly or generic equivalent before going to bed keeps this from happening. Also, Zyrtec can be taken at the when I feel and "episode" coming on. A lot of times I have been woke up by the lip swelling and applying ice and taking either of these two will stop it. I hope this helps out.
