Hiya

I'm just wondering if anyone could give me any advice as to what this is as I have started worrying about it:

I have this tiny little "lump" thing on my back. It is about a few centimetres right of the middle of my spine and just above halfway down my back. It must be at the very biggest 3mm across. I first discovered it when I was 13, I am now nearly 22. At the time when I first found it I was convinced I had cancer, but I always was a hypochondriac of a child!! Then I kind of forgot about it, although I didnt forget it was there, it just didnt bother me. Sometimes my back aches around that area, its not really painful or anything, it just feels really uncomfortable. I dont know if this thing causes the pain but it is only on the side of my back where the thing is. Lately I just started worrying about it more again, and it has been aching more noticably, but I dont know if thats cos I have beed worrying about it again or if I started worrying about it cos it was aching more! Anyway, it hasnt grown any since I first found it. It is quite hardish, except for when i pinch the skin around the area and then it feels softer.
Does anybody have any ideas as to what this could be? Could this be a little part of something growing deeper inside or would it have grown bigger overally? Is it possible for something that small to cause discomfort? Any hadvice would be appreciated. Thanx a lot x Laura :)

In all likelihood it's just a cyst under the skin. If it had been cancerous, there is no way it would not have grown in nearly 10 years!

Is it by any chance near where the band of your bra goes around your back? It's possible that your bra occasionally rubs it, and that causes it to become more sensitive. It's also possible it's a sebaceous cyst, and they can become occasionally irritated.

Doesn't sound like anything to worry about.

Yes! Lately I have been trying to avoid wearing bras on the tightest fitting because I find that causes it to ache more. It does tend to ache the most when there is a lot of pressure applied to it!! So you don't reckon its anything to worry about? If it keeps aching though and being uncomfortable from time to time would it be worth going to the docs to see if he can do something about it? But as long as its not anything dangerous then i'll try to forget about it! Thanx!

Laura,
Yes, it probably can be removed quite easily, As Mich suggested. Since your bra strap is obviously irritating it, removing it makes sense. I do not, however, think it's an emergency...you can just ask your doctor about having it removed next time you have an appointment.

Thanx guy, feel a bit more relaxed now! If i dont think about it, it aches less often, only when there is pressure applied around the area.
Thankyoooou :)
