Hi,
My mum was diagnosed with RA over a year ago and doesn't seem to be improving.

Currently she is taking 10mg of methatrexate once a week and 7mg of predisone daily. At the moment she's very weepy, has no energy and has been getting headaches like migraines.

Are these common symptoms? Any ideas, feedback much appreciated

I am fairly new to RA as well (just diagnosed last month), but from things I have read, headaches can be the side effects of many medications - and every person is different, of course. But, my initial thoughts are that if she has been on medication for a year and has had no improvements, I would think this medication is not right for her or the right dosage. Has she discussed this with her doctor? There are many new treatments and alternatives these days. I'm sure there is something better for her.

It sounds like your mom needs to discuss her treatment with her Rheumatologist. Perhaps going to a new Rheumatologist might improve her situation. It also sounds like she is having some depression (weeping, lack of energy, etc). The medication can cause this, but so can just living in agony. You might suggest that she talk to her doctor about this as well.

I would suggest staying on top of it until your mom feels better. She could use your support and encouragement Im sure. She's lucky to have you.

Best of luck!

Meg
