My Father had a kidney transplant in July everything seemed to be going fine until the past few weeks. He has been experiencing a sharp pain from his right kidney area to his shoulder. He has been tested for stones...none, and new kidney is functioning well. When the pain hits he is sick to his stomach and can hardly walk, he was given pain pills and will go in for further testing in a week or so, in the meantime, he is on pain meds...any thoughts on what the problem may be??

The problem is most likely peritonitis. There is a phenomenon known as "referred pain" in the body which is a result of there being a number of different nerves feeding back to the same area. For example, a lot of the time, when people have back pain from a kidney stone, they'll also have pain in their scrotums due to the way the nerves are distributed. There is no injury to the scrotum, but the pain signals from the kidney stone can often fool the brain to think there is.
The kidney stones and scrotum, or jaw pain and tooth pain (another example) seem easy to swallow because they're in areas that are fairly close together. Some referred pain patterns are not as obvious. Often when people have some type of inflammation in their abdominal (peritoneal) cavity, they will get referred shoulder pain. Given your father's recent history of a kidney transplant, this explanation seems quite plausible!
