Hi everyone,

I think that I introduced my self here once before. I usually post on the pain mgmt board but really wated to make some friends and be able to chat with some pleople with understand what I am going through. Someone very kind suggested that i introduce myself here, so here I am.

I am a 38 year old single mother with a 11 year old son and a 17 year old daughter. I work a fulltime job in the music industry. My job is pretty stressful but I love it.

I was in my first car accident when I was 18, i was in the front seat in a head on collision. I injured my neck ans face very bad. I had to have a lot of plastic surgery on my face and had to have my teeth reconstructed. I healed pretty well. Was pretty much back to normal by the in 3 months. i did have some lingering neck pain and stiffness.

I was in anther accident a few years later, not as bad but injured my neck again. a year ago last Oct ( october 02) I was rear ended again. i have been in chronic pain ever since. i see a doctor, ( pcp) one a month who prescribes PT, meds and who has now referred me to a phiologist (sp?) to see if he can help with injections. He wants me to have a MRi which I am having today. Once he reads the flims he will tell me where we are going from here.

My xrays say:
DDD, DJD and spinal stenosis of c-spine, forminal narrowing of c5-c7.

My doctor says that she thinks that I will need surgery to correct the bones spurs that are pinching off nerves in my neck. She thinks that is what creates my pain and weakness and numbing in my rt arm. There are days that I barley feel my hand, I drop things constantly. I also have constant bruning that runs down my arm.

The meds I take are in my signature, they only help sometimes.

Does anyone relate?

I look forward to getting to know all of you!

Hedy

So i am havig my MRi today and see the specialist on Friday

Hedy--
It will prove to be interesting to see what your MRI says...when I was injured in August (I'm a Deputy Sheriff and was injured on duty during an altercation) and my x-rays showed nothing compared to the MRI. In my MRI, I have an extracted disc at C5-6 with spinal cord compression. My surgery is scheduled for March 8th. I am also a mother of a 3 and 8 year old....it is so difficult. The little things, cooking dinner, bathtime, shopping, driving, walking up the stairs....all the things I took for granted before are now so difficult and painful.
In my situation, the pain meds didn't help much. I ended up being nauseated from the pain meds and it only too the edge off the pain. So, I still felt the constant pain.
Are you seeing a psychiatrist? I have seen one as well, however the neurosurgeon is the one who said 'you need surgery.'
Keep us posted! You will meet many wonderful people here who you will begin to consider your friends.

Hi Irish!

Thanks so much for welcoming me!

Yes, I am seeing a psychiatrist, He is the one who ordered the MRI, I showed up there yestderday and They rescheduled me for today at 10:30. I will post what the findins are. My xrays showed alot of damage, I wonder what the MRI will say?

Yes, it is very had to do all the simple things that I used to take for granet.

My meds do help some, I am gratful that I do not have to many side effects, although, I would rather not have to take anything!

I will check back later after the MRI.

Hi everyone!

Okay, so the MRI showed pretty much the same that the xrays showed except it also showed some significant disk budges in the same disks c5 -c7.

The psychiatrist is hopful that steroid injections at 2 levels will help to ease the burning as well as numbness ad pain. He "Hopes" it will help, if not off to the neurosurgon I go. I guess the "narrowing is pretty bad. I do not have the typed up formal reprt yet. I was able to take the films with me. He showed me where the damage is.

Can anyone else give me an idea of what these injections will be like? Do they help? Are they painful?

Thanks,

Hedy

Hedy--

I'm happy that you now have some more answers. Hopefully the steroid injections help ease the pain for you. I've never had them so I am unable to offer advice, but I'm sure there are other threads with some.
I wish you much luck and will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
Take care.

You have come to the right place to find those with first hand experience with what you are going through. I've never had the steroid injections before but I can't imagine them being any more painful than what you are experiencing now. I had surgery on c5 - c7 in December and feel much better now. Good luck and keep us informed.
