indigo106 02-04-2004, 05:39 PM I want to get a product that will protect my hair just b4 i straighten it. Something i can put on my hair wen its dry. Ive got a spray by Bed Head and the instruction are to "spray it on and leave it in". My hair salon said this would protect my hair for straighteing but wen i tried to use it, it stayed damp wen i put the straightener thru it and blatantly didnt work :s. I also have a spray by Charles Worthington that i spray on dry hair b4 strtning and it sizzles and kind of evaparates, is this supposed to happen?? I just got some ceramic plated irons and am trying to get my hair healthy and in better condition so really want to get this right. thanx to anyone who can help! :)

Have you tried letting the sprays dry?
xoctinaox 02-04-2004, 06:17 PM I have a chi straightner and straighten my hair every other night which can be damaging at times. That is why I put biosilk in the ends so it doesn't burn my hair. Also yesterday I went to sally beauty supply and bought this Straightening Iron Spray by Ion. it was on sale for 5 bucks. I thought it worked great on protecting my hair but it didn't smell too well...
maak823 02-05-2004, 10:58 AM I too have ran the gamut of looking for products that will protect your hair- tried the whole ION line- it did not work. A good line to try is Sleek Look by Matrix- you have to use the whole line thought to get the desired effect- I tried skipping some steps- the results were not good, but if you used the whole line it works really well. I recently ordered a line of Redken products called Smooth Down, just because I wanted to switch product lines for a while, I have not tried them but came reccomended so we'll see what happens- you are best off not to use the straightener every day - or you will fry your hair.
Girlie19 02-05-2004, 11:24 PM Don't flat iron wet hair!! You will fry your hair! Your hair should be 100% dry. I haven't found a good product to use so I don't use any. Probably not a good idea either lol. :D
indigo106 02-06-2004, 07:34 AM uh oh, thats where ive been going wrong then! i always spray sumthing on my dry hair just b4 i use the irons. I dont get it though, your supposed to use protection and yet you have to use it b4 u blow dry it instead, by which time the product has been brushed and blow dried out
Girlie19 02-06-2004, 10:24 AM Maybe you can find some kind of a cream that won't make your hair wet?

The product is still on your hair, it's just dried. The water evaporates and leaves whatever it is that protects you hair. If the instructions say to use before blow drying then it is chemically designed to partially evaporate and leave the protectant.
producttramp 02-06-2004, 08:25 PM BOISILK BIOSILK BIOSILK!!! Silk therapy! It is THE best for using with heat tools. I swear by this. It makes hair smooth but not gooky/limp/greasy. All you need is a dime size drop so it lasts and lasts. Find it cheaper on the auction sites... I wasnt thrilled with the other biosilk items but Silk Therapy has NO comparison.
just_imagine 02-08-2004, 02:10 PM I totally and completely agree with BIOSILK SILK THERAPY! Before I even read this whole thread, my first thought was "I have to reply to this to tell her about Biosilk". It is hands-down the best product I've ever put in my hair, whether I'm straightening it or not. You just need a coin-sized amount - distribute it through your hair with your fingers (I rake my hair back from root to tip with my fingers, then flip my hair upside down and make sure it's allll in my hair). You will be amazed after you're done styling. You can even use it on your skin.
By the way, when I get my hair straightened at the salon my stylist always leaves my hair a little damp! I asked her about it last time and she said that some people would disagree and say it needs to be dry, but others believe it's better to leave a little moisture as a protectant. She said it's a matter of what theory you think makes it "work better". The iron steams while she's doing my hair and afterwards it looks absolutely awesome. She also uses Biosilk in my hair too, she's the one who got me hooked on it. TRY IT!
indigo106 02-12-2004, 11:51 AM woh! i will defnitly be buying sum biosilk now! thanx guys, hope it works for me. ;)
indigo106 02-12-2004, 11:58 AM oh, and do u put it on dry hair or damp (ie - b4 blowdrying or b4 straightening?)
producttramp 02-12-2004, 07:07 PM oh, and do u put it on dry hair or damp (ie - b4 blowdrying or b4 straightening?)Either! If you have very very fine or thin hair I would suggest before, but for most everyone either is fine. I have crazy thick wavy coarse hair that needs it wet and dry. I use a dime wet and a drop dry to smooth the top layers completely. I have never had a dissatified customer with BIOSILK. Again, I wasnt too impressed with the rest of the line but the Silk Therapy has no comparison.
