Can you get arthritis in the wrist and hands if you put alot of stress on then. I'm 18 and I use a medicated cream that I use on my back. this cream is for not for arthritis but for something else. I try so hard and put so much stress on my wrists and hands to get to does hard-to-reach areas on my back that it actuallys concerns me that i might end up w/ arthritis. I've been doing this now for more than a year.

Is there any chance that if i continue to do this for atleast a year or two more that i can end up w/ arthritis

Steven,
I hope that what you are experiencing is more do to soft tissue stretching than a joint problem. Why do you think it is arthritis? You may want to try warm moist compresses before you stretch (stress) yours wrists next time. This may allow the soft tisue to stretch easier.

This is so weird but I came to this newsgroup because my wrist and hand hurt a lot. And this was the first thread I saw.
My mother has rheumatoid arthritis and I was wondering if it was hereditary. It seems to be worse when I am under stress.
Any thoughts?

I know its not arthritis. What i'm saying is if i continue to do what i'm doing which is hurting my wrist can it conduce to arthritis down the road? I dont know much of arthritis: just that your joints hurt when ur around mid age from labor and stuff like that. I've never heard of soft tissue stretching. Does the stretched tissue fully recover?

Steven,

It's impossible for us to tell you whether your activity will lead to arthritis or not. Doctors aren't sure even what causes it, plus there are over 100 different kinds of Arthritis so to be able to tell you if you are increasing your risk is unknown unless you speak with a doctor or have genetic testing done. If you are experiencing pain or discomfort, you might want to seek a doctor to figure out why. It might be that you are in the early stages of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, which involves the nerves and joints of the wrist and hand. Other than that, you might want to seek a professional to teach you the ergonomical way of doing whatever it is you are doing so that you have the least amount of stress on your joints.

What's your age? What do you think lead to your arthritis? Does it hurt so much u cant write anymore?
Do you think u could have prevented this in anyway?

i'm 34 and i just have arthritis, both hands both big toes and both hips.
it doesnt hurt all the time just when i get to typing or writing.
as for prevention, i dunno. my nuro dr. says it just happens.
the naproysn dosent work verywell, but hydrocodone works really well, the 10/325 or norco

hope this helps

Hiya!

I have RA and Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. I've read that RA makes it "easier" to get CTS. My hands were hurting so bad at one point that I had to take a sick leave. I was working as an editor back then.

I know a girl who has the same problem (RA and CTS) and with her it got so bad that even after a couple of surgeries her arms /wrists didn't get better and she can't even go near the computer anymore. She had to switch jobs and it's really difficult trying to find a job nowadays where you don't need to use a PC.

In my case though physical therapy, arm muscle exercises, using an ergonomic cordless mouse and wrist supports have enabled me to continue working with computers. I take regular breaks and stretch my hands when I'm typing and only use the computer when I have to. I try to vary my work tasks accordingly. It pays to take care of yourself on time.
