I have an odd situation. EVERY morning my fasting blood sugar is close to 200. By 9 or 10 o'clock in the morning it is normal. I have checked it every two hours at night to see if it is getting too low and bouncing, but that doesn't seem to be the case. It stays normal all day long until the following morning when it is high again. I take 18 units of lantus/day as well as 2 glucotrol tablets/day.
Does this happen to anyone else?

Same here. Around 4 am I'm at 160 and then by 8 I'm at 200 and by 9 about 220! I have been trying to "trick" my liver into not dumping glucose by eating a small protein at 4 am since I'm up anyway and it seems to be helping. Give it a try!

Although I don't take Lantus, I know several people who do. Apparently in some people it doesn't last the full 24 hours like it's supposed to. There are a couple of things you can try. If you're currently taking it in the AM, try taking it at night instead. If that doesn't work, then try dividing the dose in half; take half in the morning and half in the evening (12 hours apart). Also, you should discuss this with your endocrinologist for more ideas.
