I'm 53, for the last few years my PSA has been between 1.7 & 2.1. Last June is was measured at 2.7. Then in December it went to 4.2 I went to a urologist in January and he measured it at 1.7.
Dre normal. Do need a biopsy? Dr. says I can wait if I want and get another test in a few months. I don't want a biopsy if I don't need one.

OK FESS,
Are you aware that ejaculations, infections & inflammation of the prostate can cause temporary elevations in PSA? If you're really concerned, have your urologist run a free PSA test which is more indicative of cancer. Consistently elevated PSA's (>4.0) warrant biopsies. Your PSA's are not consistently above 4.0. & I would think a biopsy is not necessary. You do not say if any of your blood relatives have or have had prostate cancer (another risk factor). My biopsy was not painful (nothing to worry about) but did show cancer. My PSA's were all at 4.6 or above at age 45. I'm now prostate-free & loving life!
