Hi,
I went for a cholesterol test and results are as follow:
total cholesterol 248* (140-200 mg/dl)
HDL 107* (40-70 mg/dl)
Total / HDL-cholesterol ratio 2.3 ( up to 4.0)
LDL 128 ( up to 130 mg/dl)
triglycerides 67 (up to 200 mg/dl)

can somebody interpret my results....my doc said that i am fine. but the total cholesterol of 248 freaks me out. i took the test last yr and it was 205 which is under borderline. now it is 248!. when i checked the internet, 248 is under the high risk region.

Quirky results...but probably quite good.
Some pundits say that HDL over 60 doesn't add to life expectancy; others say it protects better.

What the VERY, VERY high HDL does is make it look like your have an unhealthy TC. Not true since your LDL is nicely low.

I wouldn't do anything at all to change the picture but get a retest in 6 months (or less)...If your Insurance Company balks just point out to your cdoctor that the HDL MAY have been a fluke....and it MAY indeed have been (but I have seen ONE oother person get the same thing with fish oil, lecithin and pantethine.)

Are you doing anything that might raise HDL to this astronomical level...like fish oils, lecithin, vegetarianism (or better yet pesco-vegetarianism), or are you an Olypmic level Decathalete;)?
