Well I decided to go off toprol, cant take the side effects any longer, cold feet cold hands, cant sleep, constipation, tired all the time, weight gain, higher BG levels which isnt good being diabetic, I use to be able to walk 4 miles a day lucky to get out of the house, if takeing this drug is living I dont want it, beside I hav not notice any bp benfiet other than lowering hr so low that I cant do anything. I called the doc and told him he didnt have much to say.I took bp reading for 3 weeks before doc put me on toprol and those were the best readings I had,

Griz,
If you still need BP control give a plain vanilla diuretic (like HCTZ or chlorthalidone) a try: cheap, effective, and fairly easy on the side effects if you take in extra potassium and magnesium.

GRIZ,
The most notable effect of the Toprol was the 7 point lowering of the diastolic pressure.
Be careful to ween from this stuff...otherwise you can get quite jittery and have your heart rate jump pretty high under stress...unnerving.
I'd try a week at 25 mg. and then maybe a week at 12.5mg (if you can cut them that close....a razor helps.)
When I went off atenolol, I had one scary day with a heartrate over 100 (and had been in the 50's for a month)...but within a week I was weened.
If your diastolic climbs back into the 90's, I think a diuretic will do the trick (like 25 mg. HCTZ.)
What did the toprol do for your chest/jaw symptoms?

Hey zip thanks for the info
been off toprol for almost a week no wierd side effects other than my hands and feet not being as cold, still have the tingling in the jaw and some chest pain as when i was on it , bp today was 130/82 hr 78 another thing Im able to get my blood sugar back in 70-90(before meals) range where as when I was on toprol I could not get it under 100, usually ran 120-140(before meals)
eating only 100gram of carbs for a daily intake,
this was another point I made to the doc do I stay on toprol and if i do I saked what about my bs , get this he said he might have to put me on med for my diabetes, two different med for that at $4o ea, plus 40 for toprol so $120 to do the same thing as not takeing anything that is a bunch of bs, I would rather not take anything and keep up with my exercise than spend 140 for a bunch of side effects
