Hi all,
First off I know this is do to any ear problems...have already been to ear specailist but I didn't see any topics for lightheaded. I seen a lot of people in here are lightheaded, but noone seems to know why????
Mine came on slow right before x-mas, I would just get quick spells of off balance, but then it progressed to days of lightheadedness...all day long. When I seen the DR. the first time they said it was vertigo and gave me a perscription, but that seemed to make it worse and I went to the emergency room the same night and they said it was anxiety....and no doubt I was anxious, but that was because I was soooo dizzy. So they gave me a valium and called it all good. A few days later I went back to my DR. and she ran EKG and every blood test in the book and sent me to the ear specailist. In the mean time I started feeling better. W The next week, back at my DR., she confirmed bloodtest were good and no signs of ear problems and she now insiat it is anxiety and put me on Zoloft. I've been taking the Zoloft for 4 weeks now and still no improvement, just when I think I'm getting better I get way worse. I go back to my DR. Monday and I was searching the net for any other problems that cause this dizziness, and I can't find any??????? I've never had any problems!
By the way, my dizziness is not the spinning sensation, it is like I'm off balance, sometimes it so bad I can't even walk straight. Just feel very distant, tired, weak, and sooo frustrated. I seen for a lot of you it gets worse in crowds , and mine to. I do fine on days I take it easy, it seems if I use the least bit of energy I get dizzy and it stays with me all day then.
Sorry to write you all a book, but this is bothering me so bad and it just seems like my DR. is taking the easy way out saying it is anxiety.

Please any comments or suggestions!

Hi magic... Just wanted to tell you that is exactly how mine started..slowly when i moved my head, then days later a constant lightheadedness all the time... Ofcourseit has gotten quite a bit better from the original feeling, but I still have it... today is my 3 month anniversary... I was actually 100% for 4-5 days then I got the flu and it went back to square one.

I've gotta say your best bet is to go to someone who specializes in Dizziness and Balance disorders. You can go to veda.org and they have a list or do what I did and just call all the ENT's and ask them if they specialize in Dizziness.

The ENT that said he did, truly knew what he was talkign about. Well, much more than any other doctor I talked to.. he surely didnt try and get me on anti-depressants.

hi magic,

jsut wanted to let you know i was in the EXACT same boat as you. they told me i was pregnant or just a hypochondriac! i would strongly recommend you stop taking Zoloft! it made me more axious and nervy than before. (i've been on 3 anti-depressants and reacted the same to all of them) your also more likely to hurt some one or yourself on mood-controlling drugs.

on a good note, your almost through the worst of it. it gets easier soon, i promise. i'm in college now and managing okay. i had days too where it just seemed like it would never end, now i can ignore it most of the time. if it really starts to get you down, read a joke everyday. it sounds stupid, but a good laugh helped me through my worst moments.

take care

Anastasia

Hi, Thanks so much for your replys! You guys said you experience the same thing....what is it????? I mean isn't there something causing you to be dizzy? Or is dizziness a disease itself????
This might sound stupid, but what is an ENT?
And that ear specailist I went to see was SUPPOSE to be a specailist in dizziness also...and he actually giggled when he had me perform some kind of test with my eyes closed and I about fell down. But anyway, he said nothing was wrong and I should see a nuerologist whatever that is...this is all so new to me.
Are you guys on any medications for it?

Thanks again for the replys it's nice to know I'm not alone or crazy :)

Hi magic...

An ENT is an Ear Nose and throat Specialist.. Maybe you did see one, but not all are created equal. Others here recommend a Neuro-otologist as well. What most ppl here are experiencing is Labyrinthitis... Which is a virus of the inner ear... The virus causes damage to the ears labyrinth and your body has to adapt/compensate for teh damage. This is what takes time as your brain relearns how to interpret the messages from your ear.

Magicdust,

I can't believe I found this message board. I have been feeling exactly the same way that you have. It started 10 months ago now, first with 5-10 second periods of feeling like I was tipping to the right, not spinning but just tipping. It went away for a couple of months and then came back last summer. I'd have to stop walking to stand back up straight again. Then I would have days where I would feel kind of foggy all day long. I went to my dr. who referred me to the ENT and it went from there. I had a CT scan, MRI, MRA, saw a neurologist, talked to my chiropractor, had an ENG, had a balance test for dysequilibrum and they found nothing. My ENT isn't convinced it's not neurological and my neurologist said it has to do with my ears!!! So I'm supposed to go to physical therapy now but I'm sick of going to the dr. Luckly it seems to be getting better and I just hope it stays that way. Please let me know if you find anything else out or have any other tests that I may not have had! Good luck.

Reece,

Is it possibleyou had a relapse? Maybe the first time you had it, it cleared up after a couple of months, not your just having a reoccurrence

Hey guys,

Try meclizine.
I got a bout that persisted for several months and the meclizine-25 mg, though for symptomatic relief, made the whole thing MUCH more bearable! The stuff is cheap as dirt as well (but I think it needs an Rx). I'm sure most doctors would happily prescribe it if asked.

As far as I know, there's no "cure" but time!

Hi--This is the same thing I've been experiencing since late November. I initially thought it was a withdrawal from a medication I had been put on, but research has shown it's not. It's funny, but I'm looking at the anxiety boards as well and there's a lot of lightheadedness, dizziness on there too. I've had an MRI that was normal and my ENT appointment is for March 1. With mine, I've had a constant ringing in my ears since the first of December. I've narrowed it down to either inner ear problems (I hope) or just plain anxiety. I was doing better, too, until I rode a carousel with my daughter and was thrown into a vertigo attack accompanied by a panic attack. It's been downhill from there, with a bad cold on top of everything else.

I can only hope that we find some relief and some answers soon.

Dawn.
