I would wash them with soap & water, then swab them with hydrogen peroxide. Rubbing alcohol is very irritating to the skin & shouldn't be used on an "open wound".
I only clean mine when I shower, not when I take my earrings out. But mine have been healed for many years, so I don't have any drainage.

Try soaking your earings in hydrogen peroxide before placing in ear holes. this will keep the inside of the holes clean.

Hydrogen peroxide is the best stuff for cleaning piercings. My navel wouldn't heal completely for so long, and I used hydrogen peroxide on it and it healed right up.

when i got my cartilage pierced, the guy told me to clean it a couple times a day w/ soap and warm water, then to apply bactine [u know the stuff u spray on boo-boos that stings]. if it's a relatively new piercing, crustiness is pretty normal.

You might have an infection. I would clean the ear lobes and earrings with hydrogen, then before you put the earrings back in, dip them in some neosporin. Not only will this help them slide in better, but it will help with the infection. Just remember that if it is crusty or infected and you leave the earrings out for a few days, the hole might start to close up. I always leave earrings in my ears because if I don't, the hole will close up eventually. You also might want to try 14 karate gold earrings because you might be allergic to other metals like I am.

Actually, neosporin is usually not recommended for piercings, but you could probably use it for a week without any problems. The petroleum in it doesn't allow oxygen to get to the piercing & keeps the area moist, so even with the antibiotic, bacteria can breed. Plus that same greasy barrier keeps the soap & water from getting into the piercing to cleanse it. Also, the label says "do not use on puncture wounds".
Same goes for the peroxide (even though I suggested it) - use it sparingly - it can actually eat away at the healthy skin, too. So it's okay for once in a while use, but not every day.
I think the main thing is to keep it clean with soap & water - and make sure your hands are clean when you touch the piercing - and clean the earrings, too.
Hamer is right about the 14K gold earrings - or you may have to wear white gold, sterling silver, or a surgical stainless steel. You might have a nickel allergy & the inexpensive earring posts have nickel in them.

When I pierced my navel, I was told to use antibacterial soap and water to clean it when I showered. And that was all I needed to do. It wouldn't heal, it was making crust for months. I had mono at the time so of course nothing was helping. Even after that, it still wouldn't heal and I was using the soap as directed. So I was told by someone who had maybe 9 piercings not including any he had in his ears (it was a while ago so I don't really remember those) to use hydrogen peroxide and to NOT use the soap. The soap was somehow making it worse. With the hydrogen peroxide you shouldn't have to use it for long since it should heal pretty fast after that. Just soak a cotton ball in it and wipe the area around the piercing, the jewlery, and as close to the hole as possible (or on the hole if you can remove it). Taking a vitamin might help healing too since having a piercing is an injury that your body has to heal and you need proper nutrition for that.
