Hello,
When I went my dr (specializes in Fibro etc) I was told most fibro patients had been involved in car accidents at one time or another. I would be interested in knowing if any of you have been? I have been in 4 seperate car accidents caused by drunk drivers. (I was NOT the drunk!lol) Not to mention 2 others. Most were at moderate to high speed.
Anyone?

Here, our two daughters, the FMS came on slowly as if the contagion built up. There was no accident just years of watching it grow.

Hi, I have been in four car accidents, one when I was 17 years old, again when I was 26, and another one in 1992 and in 1996. I was diagnosed in 1988 with fibromyalgia. The first accident my head hit the top of the car when it bounced over a crossroad and ended up facing the way we came. My back and neck hurt the most. In the second one I was again a passenger and my car was hit on my side and my neck was popped to the left, the car was smashed inwards towards me. Then I was rear ended from behind and I had a neck whiplash and wore a collar for months. The last one, the driver hit a utility pole, I was again a passenger. My face hit the dash and I had neck injuries again and my teeth were chipped, I had two black eyes, and a cut lip. I looked awful and couldn't work for several weeks because my face looked so bad. Needless to say all of the accidents has caused terrible neck and shoulder and back problems. Also, I have fallen on my tail bone several times in the past. x-rays show it is bent inwards but never broken. So did the accidents cause fibro? It still hasn't been proven, but in my opinion this is secondary to the accidents but not the whole cause. MistyMisty

Thanks, for your replies.
Well, the Dr didn't say it was exactly the cause but seems to add to it. Also that the fibro wouldn't just suddenly happen but comes on slowly.
It is going to be intresting to someday find our answers.

I had neck problems from 16 with the car accidents but the fibro only struck after I had my second baby in 2001. I have heard the trauma, whether it be car accidents or pregnancy can be the thing to set this off. In my case it was the pregnancy that brought on the fibro.

Gentle Granny, I had a car accident in 1970, had a skull fracture. I was the passenger and our car was totaled. I hit the front windshield and the side and busted them both. I have always had neck problems, about 5 years ago the symptoms started getting worse. They would subside and then come back. But when they came back they were always worse. For two years now I have been unable to work and the pain is horrific. I was also told trauma can bring this about.. and I was in an abusive marriage for 26 yrs. I think that has as much to do with it as the car accident. Its like when you see a snake your whole body goes into the "fight or flight"mode. Well, for 26 yrs I lived like that, but when the snake left I was unable to relax and stop looking for snakes. Does that make sense? :eyesroll:

I never thought about this but, the same year that I fell and damaged my back I hit a snow drift at 55 mph and spun in to a ditch. I had no injuries from it though.

I know in the case of my mom and I, there were no car accidents, or anything like it. My mom had "light" fibro for many years, but after a relapse bout of mono, the fibro set in very bad. For me, it was likely a bout of microplasma pneumonia that set the fibro of for really the first time in my life, though I had symptoms, looking back. I was 13, and my mom was 38. Both my sisters had mono about the same time as my mom had it, and I had micro. Pne., but neither of my sisters have fibro, at least at the moment (they are 13, 10) Hopefully, they never will!
Good luck!
