Hi again,
I got a feeling that soon I will be diagnosed with CFS. I have not worked for 7 months because of lightheadedness, brainfog, fatigue and achy Knees and ankles along with many other symptoms. I am suppose to have an MRI on Inner ear and brainstem this week.

My ? is can/do people get disability for CFS or am I going to have to work feeling this way? Is Disability going to pay my bills if I even qualify for it? I guess not many people have it because I still see one of my threads from 4 months back.

Hope someone can answer my ? I only have $700.00 left in unemployment.

Thanks

Derek

Yes, you can apply for social security disability. CFIDS is a legitimate illness. Contact the CFIDS association for information on how to go about this.

You can apply for SSD , and you need to have a diagnosis and be seeing supportive doctors. It would help if you had a firm, such as Binder and Binder start the application process. Sometimes people get approved from the start, but only when proper documentation is sent and the forms are filled out corectly. Good Luck!

I visited a CFS discussion forum for a little while recently, and was told that CFS is a singular diagnosis - & did not include people who had other symptoms.

When did your symptoms start? What type of work do you do?

Do you know what is going on with the red blood cells (A primary source of fatigue) Note this Healthboard.com post (http://www.healthboards.com/boards/showthread.php?t=150278).

What do you mean by "singular diagnosis"? Are you referring to symptoms? CFIDS involves every system of the body, therefore, the symptoms cover a wide range. However, for a correct diagnosis specific symptoms must be in place such as:

-initial onset lasts 6 months or longer
- a certain number of symptoms (8 out of 11, I believe) must be present.

This criteria, as well as other information, is available at the CFIDS Foundation web site.

In many states there are lawyers who specialize in CFIDS cases. Mine worked pro bono for CFIDS patients and I think many other lawyers do as well.

... so maybe it was just a 'bless me' club. They didn't want some very good input on what can cause fatigue. Surely someone in their group needed it, but they were only concerned with the old timers 'feeling good'

They deleted all my posts, and they were the loosers.

Dear Maggie wrote: "CFS that is caused from ethylene glycol ethers would have a depression with it as part of the Central Nervous System damage. AND along with that, also, suicidal tendencies.

Although I am not personally affected by this, in a way you can say I am, because I believe everyone in my family either is or is at risk for such.

I also understand the doctor issue.

I've talked with a lot of workers who have been exposed to 2-butoxyethanol or ethylene glycol monobutyl ether and it causes a fatigue which is from blood damage. You might find this thread interesting which was shared by gulf war vets & reference also to EVOS workers (in their case there is no question about the chemical of harm)

Do any of you have some of these other symptoms, too?
Nicole shares that sometimes doctors aren't helpful or maybe it's that they're not interested. I had a comment that this is a similar problem
for those with fatigue & for those with fatigue and with multiple other symptoms (when from 2-butoxyethanol overexposure this is fatigue from damage to the red blood cells: low function red blood cells (RETIC ratio supports such anemia) approaching over time hemolytic anemia per information on this chemical (Anemia Check link was given)
.
In general those here are sharing about serious health issues including depression.

I ask you, if someone is dealing with normal depression (& there's certainly cause for normal depression), that's one thing;

If on the other hand, (as with the group of 2-butoxyethanol poisoning) there is damage to the Central Nervous System AND that type of depression, no medication is likely to help; in fact, for this group of those overly exposed to a chemical, it can hurt them.

I think there is power in knowledge. What good does it do, for instance, to court order an anger management class for someone who has outbursts because of central nervous system damage? Why put that 'guilt upon them' that they should behave differently? ... when they can't?
For those who may be affected by this chemical, I pray they won't get cancer. (Link to prayer given)

Get a lawyer now. Social Sercurity offices will give you the runaround for years. Send this form in, wait, get rejected, appeal, see a their doctor, wait, get rejuected again. My friend has Lupus, Arthrites and Pancreitis. She is truly unable to work. She tried working but got fired for missing to many days because of Lupus. She been in and out the hospital 3 times this year, the last time for 4 weeks. Yet SSI claims she can work.

Unfortunately CFS is still not accepted. I have been sick since I was 12 yrs old and am now 35. I was on Disability for 10 yrs and just recently was able to get off of it due to alternative medicine. I had to use my Depression and Anxiety disorder, which was a symptom of CFS, to get on disability because CFS wasn't recognized. It may be different now because that was about 15 yrs ago. You need to get yourself a lawyer who can help you get around the roadblocks. Also I HIGHLY suggest seeking alternative medice such as Acupuncture, wholistic, Kinesiology. It's the reason I am 85-90% better and am off disability and functioning like a normal human being again. Good Luck!! :)

Actually CFIDS is accepted for disability. I got mine 10 years ago. A lot may depend on which state you are from, but I'm not sure. Either way, you definitely need a lawyer and, hopefully, one who is savvy about CFIDS. They do exist!
