Hi
Ive been going though the dianosis process for an unknown medical problm for 2 yrs now. I have mouth ulcers, skin rashes, iritis, reactions to needles or skin trauma, ibs, urethritis, arthritis, CNS probs but no test has come back positive. No HLA-B27, no ANA, no RA factor ect not even sed rate or c reactive. My blood shows two things - B12 anaemia associated with my digestive probs which is treated by injection, and an odd thing ith my immune system.
Intermittently when my Gp does the usual b12 check he picks up my immune system acting odd. Apparently there is something in my blood that shows how much Im reacting eg to infection or allergy. He told me the normal level for people is about 1%, for people with major allergies and illness it tops at 2-3%. Mine is tops at 6%. My blood is saying that Im fighting of a serious infection when every test for infection is clear. It tends to show around the times my symptoms above flare. What does this mean?
Thanks!
Anne H

Hi Anne, not saying this is your diagnosis, but review information with regards to Pernicious Anemia. See where that takes you. Has your doc informed you of what he suspects are the cause of your symptoms?

Do you also have profound fatigue? If so, check out the Chronic Fatigue board. These symptoms, with fatigue, could likely equal CFIDS.

Hi there,
thanks for your replies. My docs have ruled out pernicios anaemia because I dont have anti intrinsic factor. It seems that its a digestion issue as I can be stuffed up to my ears in oral B12 but dont absorb it. My doc didnt think it could be chronic fatigue either though I do suffer from extreme tiredness. I havent had a virus of any sort to recover from. My immune system is so powerful that it has been over 12 years since Ive had any virus or cold of any sort. Am I right in thinking this is CFS?

To receive that diagnosis (CFS) you would have to have had at least 6 consecutive months of profound symptoms initially. Check out the CFIDS Foundation home page for the list of symptoms and requirement for diagnosis

Hi! Your doc ruled out malabsorption of B12.
From what I understand about autoimmune, fevers, illnesses, etc., that occurred as long as 20 yrs. back can affect an individual later. Think back to high fevers, illnesses, surgeries, accidents, miscarriages, and bring that to your phys. attention as well.
Has anyone suggested a lumbar puncture to check your spinal fluid for infection?
Who diagnosed the iritis and who is treating that? An ophthalmologist? When was your last eye exam? Any blurred vision?

Hi sunflower,
trying to think back to illnesses in my childhood is difficult. I had one keyhole surgery on my right knee at the age of 12, and the last virus I had was at around age 10. Im 21 now, no miscarriages, one accident but very recent, had a major decline in my condition soon after that injury to my lower spine. Do you think any of this could be causing/affecting me? My last eye check was november by a private optician because I was having serious blurry vision and looking for papiledema (spelling?) something to do with the start of the seizures. Im a lot more short sighted than I was last eye check - can see 3.0 meters from right eye and 3.75 from left. The iritis Ive picked up myself, I dont usually see doctors for anything except major stuff so I kind of left it. I get big red rings round my iris and bad bloodshot eyes. It really aches to look at light. No one is treating it and thats because of a neurologist I saw a month ago. I went to see him for the seizures to find out what they are. He did an MRI, EEG and the blood tests again. All normal as usual apart from the freaky blood thing and the B12. He was supposed to do a lumbar puncture but as all my other tests were normal he decided I was just crazy. Stopped all my meds and discharged me. No doctor will treat me now.

Hi!
Well that's great no major illnesses, etc., during childhood.
Gosh! I wasn't aware you're having to deal with seizures too!
Read AngelicBrat's post on the lupus board, journey to a diagnosis.
Hugs to you! CalSun
