I'm just curious to hear from others taking Lamictal for seizures--how soon did you notice improvement, and how exactly has it affected your seizures?
I was diagnosed with partial seizures one week ago. I had been having anywhere from 2-10 daily. Within days after beginning Lamictal, I got down to 2 seizures daily. After one complete week, I have been seizure-free for 2 days. Now, since these partials are so erratic and I can go a few days without any then they return with a vengeance, I am trying to not be too hopeful too soon so I won't be reduced to tears should the seizures return out of nowhere. Thanks for the input!!!

I can't speak for myself,
my 6 yr. old son was put on Lamictal for complex partial seizures. He didn't know he was having them either, so HE can't tell if they've improved, but I can tell you he is not missing instructions in school anymore, he is sleeping peacefully since he's been on the medicine...so we can assume that he is not having seizures anymore. We have had to slowly work the dose up, but he has had very few side effects.

Lamictal is the only med that gave me a clear EEG and that was only 2-3 wks after I started the meds.

I started taking lamictal about 6 months ago. I was taking tegratol. I'm taking 600m a day. I've haven't really noticed a change in seizure activity. Lamictal is suppose to cover a wide range of seizures. I have partial seizures as well. Maybe I just need more time.

Hello,
I was diagnosed with complex-partial seizures and am doing better on Lamictal than Carbatrol. I have numerous blank times during the day and I now notice I am catching more of the conversation going on around me. I still have seizures that affect my body movement but I am not yet up to my target dosage so my doctor is not concerned.
Generally I believe it is so far so good. It sure is nice to participate in conversations again.

HI,
Our daughter (16 years old) takes Keppra and Lamictal. She started the Lamictal as an adjunct therapy in October. She has complex partial seizures and was having many simple partial seizures (auras) a day. That is why the Lamictal was added. She is on 400mg/day. It has helped somewhat. I think the dosage could be higher, but we are biding our time for now. She is having surgery in April to see if we can remove the seizure focus area. Our Epi likes Lamictal as a med for CPs. I expect if Katie is able to have surgery, that will be the med she gets weaned down to, and off Keppra all together. We'll have to see.
If you aren't already, it's a good idea to keep a journal (or calendar) of your seizure activity and how you felt during the day. I am assuming (hopefully correctly-forgive me if not :)) you are a female (kittykatoo), the journal will help the doc see if you have any issues before/during/after your menstrual cycle. That can also help with treatment.
All my best to you...remember to stay informed and ask lots of questions. NO question is stupid. It is your body and your life...

Everybody is probably sick of my thoughts on Lamictal, but here goes....one more time.....LAMICTAL IS MY MIRACLE DRUG!!!!!!!! Since going on it my seizures have decreased significantly....my brain-fog has cleared....my short-term memory problems are much improved. I'm LOVIN' it!
Prior to starting Lamictal my simple partials would advance to grand mals....followed at times by statis epilepticus....ending in Todd's paralysis. Now, I am beginning to feel like I'm getting my life back! I will be driving again (as soon as I get my form back from DMV) I can apply for a job.....I won't be so damned isolated......things are much better, and alot of it I can attribute to the positive changes since I started on Lamictal....which is what has become "my formula." I pray that you all find your formula.....and that Lamictal continues to work for me. Be well all, K

Thanks, I have noticed some differences but not long lasting. I am still having blank times and automatist movement in which I do thing and don't remember them. Causes a lot of arguments because I know I didn't move it but I was the only one that could have done it. It has also stop most of the arguments because I now know it is possible do things and not remember. Actually it has been a relief in that way.
I will ask the doctor about increasing my dosage, I am at 400 mg now with 200 in the morning and 200 in the evening, in May when I see him again. My problems stem from an MVA in 1971 when I fractured my skull and scrambled my brain.
