I thought for sure that this was the time that I quit. I feel like a failure and hate feeling that way. Makes you not want to try again so you can't fail again. Kinda weird. I have been smoking less tho so I guess that is a good thing. I've only had 4 today (but the night is still young) but I so much want to be smoke free. What is it that gets you to that point? I wish I would have never started in the first place but I did and this is one that's hard to cure. I am on Wellbutrin for anxiety and you shouldn't chew the nicotine gum while on it and I"m wondering if anyone else has. I know it is the nicotine that I'm addicted to so I thought if I could chew the gum that maybe I could get past the other 4 or 5 smokes a day. Does anyone know about the Wellbutrin and the gum?

Hey HappySpiirt! Who in the world told you that you can't chew the nicotene gum while you're on Wellbutrin????!!!! Of course YOU CAN!!! I did when I first quit. I was even in a smoking cessation class a few years ago where they gave us both if we wanted them both. So don't worry about that at all...it's 100% safe!!

Now, this thing about you calling yourself a failure is just bull. You are not a failure. We are only failures if we never try to quit. I think once you throw out the last of your cigs, stay on the Wellbutrin, AND use your nico gum, (do you already have some?) well I think you will do fine!! Just do it!! And stop calling yourself a failure, as you're just setting yourself up to fail. Instead say "this time I'll quit and I will succeed". If you REALLY want to quit, you will do it!!!! :blob_fire !!!!

It's up to you...now go do it girl!!!!

Oh ye of little faith - TRY, TRY, TRY, and TRY AGAIN UNTIL YOU GET IT RIGHT!

Stopping this habit is not an easy thing, but it's not impossible. You have to get it in your head and educate yourself on all of the SERIOUS dangers it can do to you. If vanity is easier - focus on those reasons. Go back and read the threads and you will find a TON of info out here as to what it can do to you.

You have forgotten why it is you felt so strongly about quitting to begin with. Write it down and carry it with you at all times if you have to but whatever you do DO NOT SMOKE. You've done it and you can do it again.

I had quit for 6 days and broke down when I first tried to quit 2 months before this quit. I had even used nicotrol but wasn't really consistent with it so this time I went cold turkey and said - "You know, I'm sure I'll miss it at times (of course not when around others because it stinks so bad), but I'm committed to quitting and will NOT forget that it can kill me at any time and I do not want to die."

DO NOT FORGET - look up the disfigured people or sadly the people that have lost their lives (wall of remember on the lung assoc.org board) and how badly their loved ones miss them and are so mad at a cigarette for stealing away their loved ones. Maybe it's easier to think of everyone you love soooo much and how a cancer stick can selfishly take it all away from you. I hate to sound so grim - but hey - this is reality and smoking can kill. Do not take the risk. Just get back on track and beat this thing and save some money while you're at it. :) One day they won't be affordable anyway so it's best to quit now because you know the longer you do it - the harder it becomes so just do it and we're here for you.

My prayers are with you as well as my support and you are NOT a failure - you had a relapse and WILL get back on track. Start thinking about your quit date. :)

Hi Happy Spirit.
I know how you feel when you say your a failure. I was told over two years ago to quit or I would end up with Esophogal Cancer. I have Barrett's Esophogus. I did for a while and then one day I just picked it up again. I used the patch that time. I have tried hypnoisis, and relaxation tapes, and wellbuterin, zyban....nothing helps. Can't use the gum due to stomach....so I keep trying and today since it is afte midnight in my area...I have to put them down for upcoming surgery. I did it the last time...and did great...around others who smoked...didn't bug me.....but the day of surgery....when my niece picked me up....that was it. I got a pack on the way home....smoked them and then none for two days again....then back at it. I have tried three times since....and don't make it.
I just read an article in the paper that said certain personality types are destined to smoke and can't quit....so I now need to change my personality...like that is going to happen but it gave me a chance to see what areas to avoid. So I wish you the best and keep your fingers crossed for me this time too......gonna download the quit meter again tomorrow to see how much I save, and how much time I add to my life, and all that happy stuff. Good Luck to us both, ^..^)))~~~

Happy and tzty - how is your quit going? I hope well. :)

And tzty - I think the person that wrote that article was a smoker that had a hard time quitting or didn't want to quit. I believe EVERYONE that smokes can quit......if they want to. Sometimes you might have to pray on it - take away the desire, the cravings, the boredom, etc... but the important thing is to convince yourself that you ARE strong enough to do this and don't be the victim. Take control of your life and quit letting a piece of tobacco do it for you. There are plenty of better things out there to do. I don't care if you replace it with eating because it would still take almost 100lbs. of added weight to give you the same risk to your heart as smoking. That is HUGE!

It's time to stop!

Are you ready? Make sure you read all of the threads and make a list right now as to why you feel so strongly about quitting. List the health reasons first of course, vanity reasons, embarrassment, the tobacco co's controlling you and you paying them to kill yourself, saving money, and getting back you life. Don't forget to add exercise in there because you'll now be able to breath much better. And another good one is sex is much better. LOL Your circulation improves dramatically. Some people quit for that reason alone. LOL Hey whatever works for you right. :)

Keep the list on you at all times as well. You do not want to forget. If you're going to do it cold turkey - know that the first 3 days are hell and just work thru it. Debate yourself out of it every time you get weak or come out here and be talked out of it. If no one replies to you asap when you need it - start doing searches all over the net to find other quit smoking places or smoking cessation groups. Whatever you do..........DO NOT SMOKE! That's the bottom line and I'm telling you (and I never ever would've though I would've said this one day because I did love smoking) that you will come to a day where you will be soooo thankful that you do not smoke anymore. The money alone is good, but saving your life, being able to jog again or not get winded at the top of the steps, smelling good and having people compliment you on it (dont' forget to hit the dept stores and reward yourself with your savings on some new smell good) :), your teeth aren't stained - go get them cleaned, your breath/hair/clothes don't stink anymore and your not tryin to keep your distance all the time, your skin will improve as well - pores are much smaller and you now have a glow - a healthy glow (drink your water), and the list just continues it really does. You will be where I am soon enough.

Just stay strong, stop and pray if you get weak, and just don't smoke. Your an addict that chooses not to........why....because you can and you are stronger than that. Think about it - it's a piece of paper with some cancer in it, that you light and your burning and inhaling smoke and blowing it back out - how stupid does it even sound??? Pretty stupid when you think about it that we'll let somethin that disgusting override us. Be strong!

Laurie :bouncing: you can do it :)
