After a lot of searching, I finally found a pharmacy that sells peak flow meters. But on the phone, I forgot to ask how much they sold for! :p Any idea on how much they sell for?

They have all different kinds from KoKo to Piko...the only things that are worth it to me to measure are the FEV1 and the peak flow. The cheapest one that does that is the Piko1. They run anywhere from $24.99-$29.99. Normal people call blow out 80% of their air in one second. In asthmatics, this is not so. This is the biggest number they go by in spirometries. They also look at FVC which is your forced vital capacity. Basically how much air you can force out. They also look at your FEF 25-75. This is your forced expository flow of 25-75 , meaning your small airways. This also includes your smaller airways sometimes because this where some of the air trapping happens and makes it harder for you to expel quicker. FEV1/FVC is a much better indicator of the larger airways because it reads how much of your total capacity is expelled in one second. In normal people, that number should be 80+%. The best number to read your medium and small airways is your FEF 25-75. |
