Personally I was too chicken to go off cold turkey and took a more gradual approach. I don't think I could have come off and stayed off were it not for learning the tools taught in CBT. I'd highly recommend it as it not only helped me get better and off meds it has made me a better parent. It takes some work to learn the tools but is well worth it in my opinion. My two favorite books on CBT are Been there, Done That? Do this! by Sam Obitz and Felling Good by David Burns. Good luck

Hi Winnie!
I didn't know you wanted to be in the same boat as me! ;)
Anyway, I strongly encourage you not to go cold turkey. At the very least, cut down your dose every 3 weeks. I'm cutting mine down by 25 mg every 2 weeks.
You can have SRI withdrawl, and it can make you pretty sick. I have a friend who just stopped taking Lexapro cold turkey and she is very sick right now. She went to the Dr. and she is going through withdrawl from her SRI's.
Good Luck!!!

It's really bad too just go cold turkey, you have to cut down gradually, you should probably talk to your doctor about how to do it.

Hi there....Last year I became pregnant and stoped my Prozac two months prior. I think that for me the pregnancy hormones counter acted the lack of meds. I was on 40mg per day. The doctor scolded my for having quit cold turkey, but it was fine for me. I however had to guit nursing because of the need to go back on as soon as the baby was born. I had post partum REALLY bad. Good lick! Julie :)

Winnie- Remember when cutting back always better safe than sorry
If you put some effrot into the tools in CBT, I'm sure you will be happy with the results so give it a try.

Take care and keep in touch!

Thanks Julie! It helps to hear about someone who has been there, done that. I'm on prozac and luvox, and am decreasing them every 2 weeks cause we are going to ttc #2 soon.

I'm surprised that you had to stop nursing while on prozac. I've been on all different SRI's since my son was 4 months old. I did continue to nurse, as they felt it would not harm my son. Glad things went well with you for your pregnancy.Sorry about the PPD :(

Winnie.....My ob said that too. She prefer's to use Zoloft on her Pregnant and nursing moms. I'd give your ob a call. They will let you know what they recommend. :)

I lead a depression group for mothers.
I've had many ladies whose drs prescibed them either zoloft, prozac or paxil come in to my group. You should consult a dr before taking any meds wether over the counter or prescription while preg or nursing.

Hello Winnie, my name is Doug and I just registered to this site today. Like the girl above I am not on meds and I cannot tell you about how you will be affect by quitting immedately. But by looking at the date you originally posted, I think it is safe to say you have already found out. Anyway, I wish you the best and remember that the strength inside you will help you through the though times, and if there are days that you just can't handle just remember that when the night comes and you fall asleep you will have some peace, even if it is only for a short time. That's what helps me. Good luck and good days.
