Hi everyone!

After reading some of the posts on this board, I'm thinking that I may have some knee problems afterall.

It started a few months ago. I had trouble going up and down stairs. I got shooting pains up the front of my lower leg and knees. I avoided stairs and then the knees got better.

Then 2 months ago, I joined a gym and after the first work-out I came home and my knees were making swuishy sounds when I moved them back and forth. I called a PT friend and was told to keep exercising. I was just using joints and ligaments that I hadn't used in awhile. I was told that the fluid would reabsorb into my body in a few days. I continued exercising for about 2 weeks (3-4 times a week). Well, the knees kept making the squishy sound and I now was in really bad pain. i went to a doctor, x-rays were taken and the results from radiology showed nothing abnormal. i asked if this included arthritis and was told there was no arthritis on the x-ray. So, I was sent home and told to wear a brace (for exercise), rest and ice my knees, and avoid exercise for a week. Well, I've never gone back to exercising at the gym, but my knees still have that swuishy sound and it almost feels like I have fluid in the knee caps. Just last night they started to ache. I never had knee problems prior to this. Does anyone have a clue what's going on my me knees?

Hi Navy,
I'm certainly not qualified to diagnose your knee problems, but something is definately going on. I believe to start with I would get a 2nd opinion. That's how my arthritis in my knees started out is with the pain as you have described and an accumulation of fluid on my knees. Although they didn't make that sound that you described...they just popped occasionally. They removed the fluid and gave me a shot of cortisone in that knee and it has been much better for at least 5 years now. Now the other knee is flaring up. It's just one thing then another!Good luck! http://www.healthboards.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hi FlowerFairy,

I'm going to look into getting a referral to an orthopedic doctor tomorrow. Thanks!
