Hi again,

I had an MRI done last week and got the results today. Everything looked great except my left maxillery sinus is cloged shut. My doc steped me down another 5mg of paxil, she thinks that the paxil may be making things worse for me and said that it most likely is causing the weird sensations. She said a cloged sinus could very well cause my brainfog and dizziness and put me on
400mg Tequin and sudafed, for now. She also checked my liver, thyroid, CBC, B12, potasium, hepatitus and did a EKG. Not bad for $15.00. I wish I would have seen her to start with. Very thourough, every doc should be that way.

My ENT told me that sinus blockage can cause dizziness and lightheadedness. That's what I was going through until I went on Prednisone.

I highly doubt your dizziness is due to anything else, such as Hepatitis, etc. Sounds like they are barking up the wrong tree a bit.

When the Maxillary sinus becomes blocked and inflammed, it presses on the inner ears. It also causes a feeling of constant "pressure".

Incidently, when I had my endoscopy yesterday, my doctor gave me a Novacaine spray. Immediately, my nose cleared, and stayed clear for almost the entire day. It was like a miracle drug. I felt 100% better, like I never had Sinusitis.

Unfortunately, I can't go around spraying Novacaine up my nose!

Chiggens,
do you think the Tequin and Sudafed will clear it up? Have you ever been put on Tequin, it is a strong antibiotic. I was put on antibiotics before and they did nothing.

She had all the other stuff I mentioned checked just to be on the safe side. That is good because I have suffered with leg pain for years and it is sometimes caused from defiecincies.

I think steroids are the only thing that will unblock a blocked sinus passage, and if that doesn't work than surgery to unblock is the next step. I just had the surgery and still dizzy at this time, but better, however I was told that until all the packing was out, the swelling had gone down, and I was healed that would be when the dizziness goes away and at this point I'm still swollen and the packing hasn't come out yet.

Hi Halls,
I took prednisone at the begining and it made me more dizzy. What do they do in surgery? Do they just get rid of the blockage?

I haven't been on Tequin, only Levaquin (I assume they are from the same family of antibiotics).

The combination of Levaquin and Prednisone seems to have gotten rid of the bacterial infection, but some sinusitis still remains. The endoscopy I had didn't reveal any puss or infection, only swelling.

My big problem right now is the weather. I walk about a mile to work, and when it is cold, my head starts to pound. My other problem is my nose. I have a badly deviated septum. I am constantly congested between 80-100%. Again, the winter weather just makes this 10 times worse.

I am hoping that if I can get through the winter without another major blow up, I can get on a strict exercise and dietary regiment, continue to irrigate and take Singulair, and get my health back. Since this started, I've gained 10 pounds from lack of exercise, and I have dark circles under my eyes. I literally look 10 years older than I am! I quit drinking altogether because of this -not much partying going on these days.

But my ENT says I'm doing everything right (see the protocol). I'm just reluctant to have the nose fixed, because it will be a lengthy recovery, missed work, etc.

I would say that if anyone has to go on 2 or more rounds of anitibotics for the same infection, it is time to consider surgery and be done with it.

I have a badly deviated septum too, dizziness, tired, cant get air. I am 90% close to getting the surgery. My cat scan was knarly looking, I have no idea how I get any air.

I know how you feel.

Interestingly enough, my nose has really started clearing up over the last week or so. I think my "protocol", which I religiously follow, is really starting to work.

But a LOT depends on the weather. The warmer it is, the more my sinuses open. If a cold wind blasts me in the face, I can feel the nose close, and in some cases, I get headaches as well.

I've also found that it is criticl to get 8 1/2 hours of sleep every night. If I sleep for 7, my sinuses feel 20% worse. If I sleep for 6, they feel 30% worse.

I purchased this thing called a Venta Airwasher. It is a combination humidifier, air-purifier, and it's expensive ($250-400 depending on the model). I bought it and kept the receipt in case it didn't work. Kept it in the bedroom for a few nights, then replaced it with a standard humidifier to see if there was any difference. There was a BIG difference. I felt much more sutffed up and my throat was a lot drier with just the humidifier. The weather outside was the same on the nights I did this. So I'm convinced this thing is working. (but I'm not a salesman for them, and I do think it is overly expensive).
