My periods have always been painful. And very heavy. When I told my first GYN about it, she said it was just because I was "just starting" my periods. Well, I first went in when I was 14. I started when I was 9. So this wasn't "your body's just getting used to all the changes" crap. For you to get a better idea of how bad it can be, I'll use the descriptions I've used to doctors. 'It feels like someone is taking a spiked stick (mace) and ramming it through my cervix and into my uterus. Then punching it back and forth in there.' 'It's like someone just started stabbing me over and over' 'Like cleats tap-dancing on my cervix' I've never had a "light" day. I'm either (sorry, this is gross) gushing blood, or I'm not. I have to use the "super-long overnight with wings" pads. And even they don't catch everything. Besides being extremely painful, it's also embarassing. In school, at work, whatever I have to change pads every hour...two at the absolute least. Also, I have clots. Sometimes they're black, sometimes a dark pink. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? Thanks in advance :D

I assume you are in your 20's? So I doubt it's because you're perimenopausal. Periods create pain and clots; it's rather the norm. But to the extent that you are describing sounds unbearable...even for anything I'd put up with at my age and I'm 48.
If I were you, I'd find a doctor who is willing to get to the bottom of the reason you are in so much pain. Sounds like the one you are seeing is just chalking it up to "put up and live with it" type talk.
Have you had bloodwork or an abdominal ultrasound done at any time to diagnose the problem? You could have polyps, endometriosis, an ovarian cyst; or something as simple as too much estrogen and not enough progesterone in your system which is a hormone imbalance.
It's not often a gynecologist will not investigate to find out why you are in such pain; and unfortunately, yours has.
Best of luck and I'm sure you'll find a doc to help you.

Well, the last time I was actually in a gyno's office was when I was almost 18. Sorry I wasn't clear about that...oops. Then my insurance ran out. I did have a reg. doc who wanted to give me an ultrasound, but my parents couldn't afford it. It was messed up military hospitals/insurance. When I 18, they cut some of the insurance (gyno, dental, etc.) but not ER or reg. docs. Sorry, big long back story there. Now I just don't have any insurance, but hopefully will be going to the health department. Let's see how testing they'll do! Thanks so much :D

I don't know if this will help or not, cause you're pain sounds real severe, but I used to get bad cramps the first few days of my period, then I started taking magnesium ,400 mg a day. Now I no longer have cramps of any kind. You're problem sounds alot worst than just cramps buy it might be worth a try.

That sounds a lot like the situation which I have experienced. I am 24 years old and have just found a large cyst on each ovary via ultrasound and CT scan. The cysts were endometriomas which are is characterized by a great deal of blood trapped within the cyst. Endometrioma is endometriosis of the ovary. I suggest that you get a highly recommended doctor to examine you, send you for some diagnostic tests, probably an MRI, and also look into as much information you can about nutritional deficiencies that can cause and nutritional enhancements that can improve endometriosis as the birth control means of controlling endometriosis is a very poor choice of treatment unless you must take it for additional reasons.

If you have endometriosis which is what it sounds like I would like you to look into selenium and B complex supplementation in particular. Please, read up on this stuff as you need to know how to properly dose yourself. Also, you need to limit caffeine and alcohol as this will contribute to the hormonal imbalance that causes endometriosis, which is pretty much excessive estrogen. Also, you need to reduce your consumption of dairy products and meats that aren't certified organic as this can cause huge hormonal imbalances. You also need to eat a diet rich in vegetables, especially green leafies, beans and legumes.
Other than that follow mother nature and selenium supplementation, hint hint without getting this post booted.
